Tarantino and Roger Avery and Avery's daughter, Gala, have a podcast called Video Archives where they watch a variety of movies on VHS. This week's episode has a good chat about McQueen's Thomas Crown Affair, if you're relatively familiar with it. Nothing mind-blowing, but they do give a little history and a great critique.

If you're looking for a new movie podcast, this is a good get. The three of them have excellent chemistry and often the rate of speech puts Gilmore Girls to shame.

Kingdom of Heaven director's cut - 7/10. Not as good as I remembered but it did have some powerful scenes, especially the siege scene was incredible but I am biased as an Age of Empires player lol. Orlando Bloom just isn't quite leading man material for such a huge film.

The Green Knight - 8/10. This was such a weird movie but I super into it and just sat there, going along with the rollercoaster ride. It had such strange things in it, but it was done remarkably well I thought. Also, cute fox!

Sphere - 6/10. Sunshine seems an apt comparison for this. First half being completely different from the second half. Everything about both movies is well made, but to me, the second halves just really drag them down a lot. The change in tone and where it goes is such a shame, like Sphere was an 8 and Sunshine a 9 until that shift. They are still decent movies overall though.

Kiss Me - 6/10. I liked it, but it didn't do much special or new. It's a pretty simple story of relationships and falling out of love that has been told before, except with a bi/lesbian aspect.

Ma vie en rose - 7/10. Resonated a lot with me. Had fun parts, depressing parts, and ultimately a nice ending and resolution.

Akira - 3/10. I'm sorry but this was just bad (to me). I liked the background artwork a ton, but I vibed with almost nothing else. It gets hailed as influential and some of the best that anime has to offer, but there's just too much weirdness for me to get into it. And, as always with cartoons, I struggle a lot with immersion.

Up next, Emilia Perez, Anora, and The Outrun

Edit: started watching Emilia Perez and stopped after 20 minutes. 1/10. Went in blind and didn't realize it was a musical which I never like. I kept watching because I thought where the story was going was interesting. However this portrayal of a trans person disgusted me. The first thing the trans character does is to flash. And then "Vaginoplasty makes the men happy"?? Outrageously offensive.

I discovered this week that A24 has a tabletop RPG for The Green Knight available, which is one of the most unique movie merch products I've seen that isn't just something super limited edition.
