This is from the director of It Follows who has been in director jail since Under the Silver Lake premiered at Cannes in 2018 to horrific reception and then bombed in 2019 when A24 finally released it.
This looks more mainstream than what I was expecting, like it looks like a Spielberg inspired film. Not what feels like a natural follow up to Silver Lake.
I watched Silver Lake back when it released. I still haven’t decided if I liked it or not.

I don't remember if I posted this in the movie thread about a month ago, but I watched Under the Silver Lake for the first time knowing absolutely nothing going into it, based solely on the bumper trailer because I like noir and Andrew Garfield.
I think that it's the most baffling movie I've ever seen. Even reading the plot summary on Wikipedia makes no sense. Like each individual sentence makes sense in isolation, but there's no way to determine how they connect to one another.
The conclusion I came to about 2/3rds of the way through was that he was in the midst of a psychotic break, but we were seeing the world through his eyes where he's normal and all the conspiracy theorist addled connections he's making to random events are just imagined.
Anyway: weird fucking movie and I agree, I have no idea if I enjoyed it or not.
