There is a whole series of these movies. Already mentioned is Cube 2: Hypercube, but there is also a pre-quel called Cube Zero.
I personally really enjoy all of these movies. While I wouldn't call any of them cinematic masterpieces, they are definitely fun to watch if you like the horror genre. I like to watch these movies every once in a while and haven't really seen much discussion on the movies.
Cube... well, huh. After being exposed to so many cubes in the movie, I must have transposed the "s" in my mind, I could've sworn it was Cubes! Cube it is, I'll update the title at a suitable...

I wanted to review something a little less known, Cube fit the bill pretty well. Quite honestly surprised it's not more popular than it is. Like you said, it's not a masterpiece, but they're fun and zany, and I think the weird little quips could be interpreted into cultisms pretty easily.
so many cubes!!! Honestly, I love little claustrophobic settings like these. There was a time when Phone Booth was my favorite action film, because it all spun around of a couple of square feet, I...

I've also recently watched Cubes and had a similar experience with it. Not sure if you know, there is a second Cubes movie (Cubes 2: Hypercube). I watched that one too, and if you thought the first one was entertaining enough to watch again at some point, I'd recommend the second one. It hits pretty much the same type of feeling for me - entertaining, a little cringy, still some weird characters and stuff, but overall something to kill some time with some entertainment value :)
I saw Cubes 2 floating around yesterday when I was hunting down pictures for this blog post, I'll definitely give it a watch. I can barely imagine the kind of sequel we'll get out of this mess....
I saw Cubes 2 floating around yesterday when I was hunting down pictures for this blog post, I'll definitely give it a watch. I can barely imagine the kind of sequel we'll get out of this mess. Did you get any of the same weird relatable maniac relatable vibes from this movie that I did, or did you more or less see it as an entertaining show explicitly?
Yeah I definitely felt some sort of weird relatable connection. Even while recognizing the crazy I was watching. But then again I’m a sucker for the weirder, lower quality horror movies so the...

As am I, just so long as they're the right kind of bad :) My favorite "low quality" horror movie is Drag Me to Hell - I probably won't be reviewing it any time soon since it's not scifi-related,...

Cube is one of my favorite "B+" horror films. It's not fantastic by any stretch of the imagination, but it has that certain je ne sais quois about it that makes it incredibly charming. The fact that it has Rodney McKay from Stargate and Ezri Dax from Deep Space 9 in it is just a bonus. I have a lot to say about this movie, but the review already did most of that, so I'll just say that it's a damn fine bad film that's aged pretty well.
Another fantastic review, @biox, thank you for posting! Gotta say man, you've got great taste. Looking forward to your next one.
Wholly agreed, I think it took awhile for the "feeling" to sink in, but it really was captivating, very unique. Thanks for the kind words, I'll keep you posted. :) Total sidenote, but you reminded...

I feel that this is as good a place as any to maintain that I'll never include ads, tracking, or anything related on my website - I'm reviewing these movies out of love for scifi / horror - I would love to help expose people to my favorite brand of film, as well as flesh out the horror-side of Tildes.
My source is here if anyone cares enough to peek at it.

I think you did a great review here, though I think there's something about what you said here:
That place between incredibly good practical effects captured earlier by The Thing and Alien, and incredibly good computer generated effects captured later by It Follows and The Babadook.
I don't think we actually "lost" the ability to do practical effects in the 90s, it's just that this movie did not have much in the way of budget. I also think that a lot of indy movies started getting more attention in the 90s, which is where that feeling of "we've got 'meh' effects now" comes from; it was more possible to do things on a shoestring than it was in the past.
Also, Cube features Wayne Robson (RIP), who was a fantastic Canadian actor and notably of Red Green fame. Julian Richings is also an entertaining "creepy" actor that you might recognize from Supernatural where he plays Death, Hemlock Grove, The Witch, and other horror films and shows. He did a pretty good job, but kind of fell apart near the end.
First, thanks for reading through my review, and more for responding! That's a great point I hadn't considered. I think that sometimes "bad effects" can add a lot to a movie, if used correctly, so...

It reminds me a bit of Cabin in the Woods. Have you had a chance to watch that film?

Absolutely! Easy mistake to make as the movies are all filled with MANY cubes!
