I've also recently watched Cubes and had a similar experience with it. Not sure if you know, there is a second Cubes movie (Cubes 2: Hypercube). I watched that one too, and if you thought the first one was entertaining enough to watch again at some point, I'd recommend the second one. It hits pretty much the same type of feeling for me - entertaining, a little cringy, still some weird characters and stuff, but overall something to kill some time with some entertainment value :)

This may be a little uncommon, but for me it was removing the toxic family members from my life. After the last of my parents died (when I was at the ripe old age of 23), all I had left was a very narcissistic aunt and my mom's long term boyfriend. After a couple years I realized it was just constant negativity and all the feelings of "I don't LIKE you as a person, but you are my family so I HAVE to tolerate you" was all I was left with. After going to therapy, I realized it is OK to cut people out, even those who are family, for your own mental health.

The only one I miss is my step-dad (mom's long term boyfriend that basically helped raise me since I was 6). But he wasn't dealing with her death well, doing a lot of drugs, and started feeding into the drama of my aunt - probably because he was high all the time. I hope one day he finds peace and we can have a relationship again, but for my own anxiety I had to cut them out. I can't tell you the amount of relief and independence I finally felt when I didn't have an obligation to keep that type of relationship in my life.

Again, not for everyone, but for 25 year old me (at the time), it helped tremendously.

Good for you! I was actually coming here to say the opposite LOL my husband has very very bad depressive anxiety and he stopped relying on medicine because he was afraid of the feeling when he stopped (very much like a detox. It was scary.)

When weed became legalized in California, that was the first time I ever really smoked, and I smoked with him. It has helped him tremendously and actually helped us get closer since he wasn't just a boiling pot of anger and anxiety all the time. But like you said, it's different for everyone.

Hope you continue to see positive changes!!

I have to say I've had similar experiences. As a larger woman, the first thing any doctor tells me is I should work on my weight. Never asking me if I already am or if I am trying. And god forbid I go in for foot or leg pain, then it's just because my legs are carrying all my weight. Nope, turns out I broke my foot when a hammer dropped on it last Christmas. But thanks, now I know I have to find ANOTHER doctor who will actually listen to me.

Although I will say I have found decently good therapists to help me work through it, as opposed to your experience. But having been to many over the years, therapists are a dime a dozen. You really gotta shop around to find one that works for you. If the first couple just overlook you because of your weight, they aren't good therapists anyways. And believe it or not, there are TONS of bad therapists out there.

Hmm, thats a good question. I don't have cable or netflix, so I haven't seen most of what you have listed on your spreadsheet. I guess the only one that even comes to mind would be True Detective - except I think True Detective did it very well. It was able to bounce between future/past, scenes over here, scenes over there, etc very well and tied them together. I think American Gods was lacking in that type of seamless fluidity. But even still, that's a really really really distant comparison.

I don't think it did, personally. I hadn't actually read the book in a couple years by the time I watched the show, and even knowing what was going on, I was VERY confused and had a hard time keeping up. Had to watch a couple episodes more than once to piece together where they fit in the story and how it was related to what else was going on.

At some point I will probably go back and read the book then immediately watch the show to help me. It just...doesn't do a great job at explaining things - it has you take a lot for granted. Which when done well won't cause confusion (in my opinion), but if its not done well it can seem disjointed (which is how I felt American Gods came off a bit).

Would still definitely recommend watching it! I was just saying take it with a grain of salt. :)

American Gods is probably my favorite book of all time, Neil Gaiman is my favorite author. I love all his stuff, I read all his stuff, I buy his books multiple times since I wear through them so much. With that being said, I thought the show was OKAY. Even knowing the book very well, the show was REALLY hard to follow. Because its just so...abstract with very little in the way of transition. And so much weird stuff is going on in the story anyways, that without a really really solid flow it feels very jarring. I only ended up watching up to episode 6 I think so I didn't quite finish the first season. But my recommendation would be to at least read the book first so the flow makes more sense.

That's what I would assume. The Old Republic may not have had an army (I am not sure, tbh), but at the very least Jedi have been battling for their way of life for centuries - starting with the first Force Wars - so they have at least some basic knowledge. And the fact that it shows them pretty much just hitting the ground running kind of seals that idea in my head, too.

Oh yeah, I definitely think 5e is the best edition so far. I started playing DND with 5e, only having briefly experienced 3.5 and overall its just way more streamlined. Then somehow we ended up with Pathfinder...which is WAY opposite. Spent too long in that system before finding our love in the Genesys system (star wars edge of the empire/force and destiny/age of rebellion if you are familiar with these).

Anyways, I hope to hear more crazy D&D stories!!

LOL! This kind of player collaboration and outside-the-box thinking about in-game items is what makes me LOVE tabletops. That sounds like mad fun. Reminds me of a time in our recent game (we play Genesys, not D&D but its still a tabletop RPG) where my engineer type character crafted this launch pad prototype. We were fighting against this druid that kept summoning elementals to fight us, but the druid himself was sitting at the very top of this pillar smack dab in the center of these dragon ruins. We couldn't figure out how to get him! None of us had range, or at least that far of a range, to attack. Well wouldn't you know it, my little gnome engineer pulls out her launch pad, launches herself up there (barely making it) and just ends up pushing him off. He fell to his death. No one could believe a 3 ft tall mega genius could take care of him all by herself when no one else could. XD

If you don't mind me asking, what D&D edition are you playing?

My husband and I have been on Keto - fairly successfully - for a while now. I'd say between the two of us we have very weird/unique food quirks and pickiness. What really helped us was taking the plunge and recognizing that we would probably have to start making things from scratch. It takes more effort and is definitely a test of willpower to come home and make fresh baked "bread" EVERY day, but it helped us keep track of everything we did or didn't like.

Also, finding a handful of dishes we really loved, and finding minor variations of them helped keep things fresh too. Like if something was delicious with beef, we would try it the next week with chicken, and the next week with fish. That way, if we could find three dishes that fit BOTH of our food needs, we could make those three dishes into 9 different options by just changing out 1-2 ingredients. Some people might find it boring, but it's been enough to keep us on keto for multiple months. We've both lost over 15 pounds so far!

I've never been to bronycon or any other MLP convention either, but I have been in and out of the fandom for a long time. This seems a little bittersweet to me, because it makes the ending of the show like...even more real if that makes sense. But honestly, I would be happy for the convention to end along with the show. I think it would get stale really quick, unless it morphed into something centered solely around fan content which is probably better suited for an arts fair instead of something strictly for MLP.

Although it is sad to me to see the numbers dwindling. I remember back in the day when it was such a lively, growing fandom. It felt so massive and inclusive and like being part of SOMETHING. It still feels that way to an extent, but I mean, life moves on right? Nothing sticks around forever, shows can't just continue indefinitely. So, it will be a little sad to say bye to all my favorite characters and see the fan content start to slow down too...but at the same time its a little bit of peace too.

That got oddly off topic. Sorry. Lol :)

I am not entirely sure in what time frame the new clone wars show will take place, but I'm a pretty big star wars fan and have been playing the Star Wars: The Old Republic MMORPG on and off since it first came out. One of the cool things I got when I preordered the game was this book that is written like a journal from the point of view of a Jedi Master. Not sure if this is canon, but he actually addresses this point really specifically.

Apparently, after the very first Force Wars (the first time that there was a divergence between groups of people deciding that access to the force meant they should rule vs. those who thought it should only be used for knowledge) that was the birth of the difference between Jedi and Sith. As a result of this very first fracturing of force users, the early Jedi studied self defense and the ways of the war only because they recognized the importance of protecting the secrets they discovered, and they correctly predicted that there would always be those who would want to use the Force for personal gain.

If that's the case, it makes sense that that type of teaching would be passed down and probably grown a lot more over the centuries to diverge away from the defensive aspect of it, and start incorporating more offensive tactics. So the hundreds of thousands of years later, as Jedi evolved, combat and tactics is most likely a huge part of their training.
