I Am Mother (2019)
I Am Mother is a sci fi movie centered in a dystopian future with a novel twist.
If you prefer neat, predictable endings, then this movie is probably not for you.
What is particularly interesting, is the movie is almost deliberately ambiguous, and it constantly challenges the usual assumptions you might make.
The final reveal subtly explains away some of the elements that at first seemed a little jarring or confusing. Other aspects are not fully explained. This creates enough space to construct some very interesting back story theories, while ultimately leaving you guessing.
SPOILERS (I know the tag is there, but other coments are relatively spoiler free)
I watched this yesterday. Enjoyed it! Always good to see scifi films that are not an excuse for a violent visual extravaganza but explore what it means to be human and how the world is shaped by the things we build.
This is true! I thought, why would Mother show Daugther where she put the gun? Why leave all the critical systems and evidence accessible to your prisoner? But those turn out to make sense :).
I also like how they give it away at the start. The intro says ~13.000 days after the event. Which is 35 or 36 years. At least double Daughter's age. You know she wasn't born/decanted on day 1.
EDIT: typos.

p.s. It sounds interesting, and I will prob watch it tonight. Thanks for the recommendation. :)
Just finished watching it and watched to chime in again. My thoughts, as spoiler free as possible:
Damn, that was really good. It was a masterclass in tension building. and it was also pretty remarkable how captivated it kept me throughout, especially considering how few characters there were and how restrictive/confined the set was. That's a rare feat, and the immediate comparison that came to my mind was Moon with Sam Rockwell. Excellent stuff, thanks @nic!
p.s. @wanda-seldon, since you asked to know what I thought about the movie after I finished watching it. I wholeheartedly second nic's recommendation.
SPOILER
Having seen Moon, my initial theory was that Woman was an older version of Daughter :-P
