I need it to be good enough for me to watch twice. The first time through will be purely for entertainment purposes, the second will be to actually understand some of the nuance as there are already characters in the trailer that I do not recognize and doing a quick browsing of the games on wikipedia it appears I haven't played any of the games since MK4 as I only played in the arcades.

To be fair movies based on video games don't exactly have a great reputation for quality in the first place, the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie was released in the infancy of the genre (when films tend to be of low quality anyway), and it was pretty much required to be cheesed up in order to be rated PG-13 despite the violent and bloody source material as an R rating during that time was never going to be allowed for a movie based on something "meant for kids."
