    I wonder if they're going to do something like they did in the 40s where Superman busted up the klan? If ever there was a time when that would be appropriate again, it's now.

      While that does have its own “Inglorious Basterds” type of appeal, I’d really hope to see a Black superhero story that doesn’t focus specifically on being anti-racist. Obvious it will be...

      While that does have its own “Inglorious Basterds” type of appeal, I’d really hope to see a Black superhero story that doesn’t focus specifically on being anti-racist. Obvious it will be anti-racist and some element of racism will play out in the characters’ lived experience, but at his best Superman works as a symbol of hope moreso than a “I solve problems by smashing them” kind of guy. I think there is richer territory to be mined in exploring how being Black would affect the development of a Clark Kent and how it looks when a Black face is used as an icon for all the best in humanity.

      Most certainly not, but there are definitely more current social commentary to be made. It would be absurd not to do so. The Superman franchise is ideal to explore the dark side of the American Dream, as is evident in its slogan Truth, justice and the American way.

        I was trying to charitable about this whole concept, as I recognize my own bias against superhero films in general and DC franchises in particular (besides Batman), but this reminded me of just how much disbelief I'd have to suspend to watch this.
