That looks awesome. I wonder how they'll manage the power disparity. The eternals should probably be powerful enough to make everyone else irrelevant. I didn't follow them on comic books though....

That looks awesome. I wonder how they'll manage the power disparity. The eternals should probably be powerful enough to make everyone else irrelevant. I didn't follow them on comic books though. Maybe they'll solve that the same way they did it with Captain Marvel by acknowledging they're ridiculously powerful, but also giving them bigger fish to fry on the other side of the (multi)universe(s).

More seriously though, the casting in this is actually pretty impressive. Beyond the three mentioned above, there is also Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan (Humans, Crazy Rich Asians), Lauren Ridloff (Walking Dead), and more...

It's been 13 years since the original Iron Man came out and since that hit it's just been non-stop superhero movies. I just can't be bothered any longer.

That would be pretty cool, yeah. But Marvel is a super hero company, there's no escaping that. That is kinda like complaining that all Ford does is launching cars.

Huh.... no I don't think so. This feeling was expressed in multiple ages, about many cultural phenomenon people deemed unworthy. Marvel super heroes are generaly not supposed to be taken seriously, I'm not sure why so many people expect them to be deep discussions of philosophy or whatever. Super heroes are the modern equivalent of Zorro, not Citizen Kane. You know, kids stuff with a greater budget. Some grown men enjoy kids toys, that's all.

Besides, humankind is great at doing a lot of things at once. There are numerous examples of deep sophisticated filmmaking readily available for all. There's stuff for everyone. We are far from decadent as a culture.

It's kinda weird to relate Trump and a harmless action movie, anyway.

The top movies in the last 10 years are almost all in that same genre, as you put it : childish, not to be taken seriously, shallow movies. Compare to some random year in the now distant past :

          https://www.the-numbers.com/market/1970/top-grossing-movies
          https://www.the-numbers.com/market/1952/top-grossing-movies

Several movies adapted from novels (one from Flaubert!), a lot of adult, serious themes and creativity with the occasional kids stuff and importantly a lot of diversity. To me it's pretty clear Hollywood is in a brain-dead, atrophic phase currently, which coincides with the general political and cultural idiocy (and it has to be because Hollywood's output is a combination of offer and demand). Yes there's still some good movies around, but they are absolutely obliterated under a metric ton of samey and mediocre ones, which wasn't the case as much in the past.

I also very much object to the notion that kids stuff has the right to be dumb, if anything you specially don't want kid stuff to be dumb (you know, education and all).
