You Only Live Once (First Impressions of Earth - The Strokes) is maybe the best opener to an album. Thoughts?

While listening to the album this morning, I had a thought. You Only Live Once is a perfect transition from The Strokes previous two albums (Room On Fire, Is This It), to the evolved, more mature sound on display in this album. It bridges the albums so perfectly. What do you all think? What are your favorite album openers?

Also, I'm new to tildes, a reddit refugee (redfugee?). Really glad to be joining the community!

This is more a bunch of albums I think are generally cohesive, including some really good openers, but:

Hot Tent Blues gets all of Fantasy Black Channel's energy pent up, and then Late of the Pier doesn't stop for another like 50 minutes.

Outside is a great, straightforward transition like you said into KKB getting noisier. They've always had a bit of melancholy behind them, and some of the songs on Time n Place could totally have been on Graduation without alerting anyone, but it makes the whole album feel more honest as a result.

Kid Charlemagne into a really funky album about desperate characters, and then Black Cow into an utterly pristine experience.

    Come Together. Y'know.

Actually, album I don't like - Dance Yrself Clean feels like a thesis of everything great LCD Soundsystem did to that point, but after opening with that kind of thing the rest of the songs just don't feel as cohesive or relevant to each other as Sound of Silver.

Dance Yrself Clean is such a banger. I have so many fond memories of putting that on at a house party and the whole place is dancing by the end. Kid Charlemagne I've heard of, but the others are...

Ha, wow, I'd never put that together! The chord progression is different, but that strumming pattern and even the first chord are identical (same key even, maybe?). Very cool. I love how different...

I love how different musicians use similar or even identical chord progressions/beats/etc to very different effect. I discovered a while back that The Joker (Steve Miller Band), Don't Come Around Here No More (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and Undone - The Sweater Song (Weezer) all have identical chord progressions, to the point you can interchangeably sing each over the other. I'd love to do a mash up one day.
