For those unfamilliar with Amoeba, it's a record store that sells both new and used music alongside movies and a limited selection of books and paraphernalia with just three stores in California. They're in Hollywood, Burbank, and San Francisco. They're a bit hard to describe but if you live in a big city and have a really big music store that carries a lot of indie stuff and is staffed by a bunch of people who are hardcore into their own tastes of music, it's kind of like that but at a bigger scale. Each store publishes their own little magazine of sorts called "Music We Like" which is filled with exactly what you would think. They also do small concerts from time to time. They've got a lot of cultural value, which I guess is part of how they can get celebrities to do things like this.

Thanks for the additional info. I actually wasn't familiar with Ameoba until I stumbled on these videos a few years ago. But now if I ever travel to Cali I fully intend to go to one thanks to these videos. Especially since it reminds me of the iconic Sam the Record Man store that used to be downtown Toronto that I frequented as a teen before it closed. I bought my very first album there, and damn do I ever miss it, and old-school record stores in general. :( I'm glad to know the culture/tradition at least carries on somewhere though, and IMO that's definitely worth preserving.

That was pretty cool! I had never heard of Amoeba, much less their youtube series "What's in my bag?", but I'll probably end up watching a lot of these. Thanks for sharing.

NP. Glad you enjoyed it too. And I've posted a few others that I thought other people might appreciate here on Tildes too, if you're interested in watching more:...
