Any other Canadians here have fond memories of watching MuchMusic growing up? My favorite was all the times Weird Al took over the station and did those hilarious edited celebrity "interviews". E.g.
WEIRD AL YANKOVIC takes over MuchMusic, 1993 [1h09m]

But I also miss RapCity, Speakers Corner, and Strombo's Punk Show, MuchLOUD, and MuchNews segments. Big Shiny Tunes was also the soundtrack to much of my adolescence.

    R.I.P. MuchMusic.

    p.s. Some other fond memories:
Barenaked Ladies, The Nylons, Corky and the Juice Pigs, "Rocket" Ismail, Michael J. Fox, Sarah McLachlan, Crowded House, Jean Chretien, Jacksoul, Aqua, Jeff Martin, Goo Goo Dolls, Moist, Weird Al on Speakers Corner
    Ed the Sock VJing
Ed The Sock hosts Much Music's Fromage
MuchMusic Tree Toss 1986 to 1999
Muchmusic Rap City - Ottawa Special Hosted By Tom Green

I loved Punk Show. Really got me into the music I listen to as an adult. Opened my eyes to what else was out there!

I think when Speakers Corner shut down it was clear it was over. It was the end of listening to people or trying to make something with the people. Then it's just TV.

I feel like Much was so much more. Between interviews that ranged from floundering to high art, as well as having moments where random artists stumbled into other artists' interviews (I hear Strombolopolous & Tea Party frontman didn't go well).

I think the greatest legacy of Much was Electric circus. It was showing off newly discovered dj's and more importantly - discovering house music in the early-to-mid 90's in Canada while that was just emerging in the States at the same time. Raves were literally emerging in America and not on TV while Canada had a mediocre underground scene while they were regularly showing off the scene and scenesters on 'mainstream' TV.

I actually didn't watch Electric Circus all that much, despite the fact I was raving pretty much every weekend in the 90s myself. MuchMusic tended to be my break from electronic music though, so I mostly liked listening to Punk, Hardcore, Alternative, Rap and Hip Hop on there. Plus, EC didn't tend to show many D&B, Jungle, Dancehall, or Ragga artists, which were the rooms I tended to hang out in at most raves anyways.

p.s. How dare you call our early 90s rave scene mediocre. ;)

Nardwuar definitely is a treasure. As much as he can be a little grating sometimes, he does more research on his interviewees than pretty much any journalist. I was very happy to meet him at a Queens of the Stone Age concert in Vancouver and he was quite surprised when I told him I appreciated that he was the only reporter at a press interview with Jean Chretien that got (on film) a question about his involvement with having the police pepper spray a peaceful protest. I was glad that somebody grilled him on that. It's too bad Chretien got out of it with a glib comment.

I wasn't into music much growing up but we'd put Much on and try to figure out what they were singing about from the music video. Always fun. Also, Big shiny tunes and speakers corner!

I know someone who sent in an arts and crafts thing to request a song. They spent a lot of time making a thing. Then we spent weeks (months?) after school every day glued to the television waiting to see when the VJ would get through the pile of requests with theirs in it. Fun times. The prize that day was a console game. They didn't win it.
