I enjoyed it! I'm a casual Hobo Johnson enjoyer, mostly his popular stuff (Subaru Crosstrek XV and Peach Scone). I still need to peruse more of his discography. I know fantano didn't like one of them which caused some rifts but I know he can be easy to disagree with sometimes so I don't give his reviews much thought until I've actually heard the album in question.

I once heard this explanation of media critics that helped them sort of click for me: the promise of a [good] critic is that the express their opinions legibly and consistently, such that readers can decide to what extent their preferences align with the critic’s. If I find a critic that appears to be consistently mirroring my own perspectives and preferences, then if they say they like something new, I probably will, too!
That said, I… still don’t really engage with them haha. I find that my own music tastes are so broad that most critics I find are going to have something to negative to say about at least one thing I genuinely love, so 🤷
I LOVE Hobo Johnson! Thank you for sharing this, I hadn’t heard it yet. I fell in love with him watching his Tiny Desk performance (which everyone should absolutely watch). I’ve bought every one...
I LOVE Hobo Johnson! Thank you for sharing this, I hadn’t heard it yet. I fell in love with him watching his Tiny Desk performance (which everyone should absolutely watch). I’ve bought every one of his albums. He just brings such earnestness to every performance and recording, I can’t look away. Songs like “Jordan’s House” and “You need help” are so vulnerable, and I love his ability to mix very plain, straightforward narration with poignant, sometimes beautiful metaphor.
YVW, and ditto about first falling in love with him thanks to Tiny Desk. Speaking of which, LFTL: Hobo Johnson and The Lovemakers: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert But I originally fell in love with...
They didn't win the contest that year, but they still made enough waves with their submission that it eventually got them a real Tiny Desk Concert spot later that year.

Heh, yeah, same. I understand the theory of why their opinions can be helpful to some people, but I personally have never found them to be.

I’m glad he’s making more stuff :)
YVW, and ditto about first falling in love with him thanks to Tiny Desk. Speaking of which, LFTL:
Hobo Johnson and The Lovemakers: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
But I originally fell in love with him after his Tiny Desk Contest submission, which is well worth watching too:
Hobo Johnson & The LoveMakers - Peach Scone [NPR Tiny Desk Contest 2018]
They didn't win the contest that year, but they still made enough waves with their submission that it eventually got them a real Tiny Desk Concert spot later that year.
Another new live performance video:
Hobo Johnson - Jordans House (live)
