OP, care to share why you like this? I've never been able to understand any of the praise this record gets.
White Light / White Heat is definitely a turning point in VU history, after that they mostly dropped the "Art" part of art-rock and the Avante... erm, can't think of a catchy one for that :P....

You'd be shocked how many people have never heard anything other than Loaded though. I look at VU and Lou Reed as more of a rock / pop musician after this point, and in that lens Loaded is one of the best albums of all time.
There are still traces of WL/WH on this album, e.g.: Murder Mystery, but thematically much of the material is closer to Loaded (e.g., Candy Says is very similar in structure to some of the longer ballads like I Found a Reason)
I love just about everything VU. Folk, pop, weird noises, 15 minute stories about people mailing themselves to indifferent girlfriends, all of it!
Huh, do people really know Loaded the most? I guess it makes sense now that I think about it, but personally I've never had Loaded be the one that jumped to my mind when people mention TVU....

I'm glad you mentioned Murder Mystery though, it's one of my favorite TVU songs and it matches up there with my other favorites quite well.

I know what you mean when you say that you don't like anything after WL/WH as that was a turning point for the band and they chose a different, more commercialised direction than their previous long artistic works. I don't like this song because it's a VU song rather I like this song because I generally like songs with simple music and and simple (?, I don't really know how to describe it accurately but something more like someone talking rather than melodiously singing) vocals. I'm also very partial to Lou's voice which is why I like most of his independent work too (Transformer was a very good album). As for why it gets a lot of praise? Because it's a very beautiful and evocative song which perfectly describes the feeling you get when you love someone you can't have and how you idolise them and ponder over them but can't can't have them. Also the way he sings it and the fact that it was not a run of the mill love song but a song about the sadness of his unattainable love (his first love actually) makes it all the more evocative.
Although the name says "Blue eyes", the song is about someone with hazel coloured eyes (Shelley Albin) who was Lou Reed's first love and married to someone else at the time.

PS sorry for rambling.

One of my favorite Lou Reed tracks -- the ethereal organ work behind his tremulous voice; perfection.
