As a former WWOZ DJ of the pre-Katrina era, this article spoke to me. The station was something funky and special at that time. It still is, but it's a bit more tame now. During my overnight shows back then I would always play a long cut at 4:20am, go sit out on the porch, look at the Louis Armstrong statue in in Armstrong Park and commune with the spirits of Congo Square.

Yeah, at the same time I had a show at WWOZ I also worked as a DJ at an oldies station and an announcer for commercials and promos. It has been about ten years since I did any regular on air work....

Yeah, he was one of a kind. I think I have three or four CDs of his airchecks somewhere. I'll look for them next week when I get back from vacation, if I can remember.
