This week's album and EP releases

Here's a list of a lot of things that came out in this past week, including many which are set to release on Friday. Of course, there's no way to be completely comprehensive with this and I avoided including things where information was too lacking, so feel free to mention anything that isn't on here that you think is worth mentioning. Beyond that, if you have any thoughts of any of these albums, it would be great to hear them :)

(oh and don't bully me for the genre tags, a lot of these things have very limited resources available and I couldn't individually listen to everything and determine what fits best, so I'm pulling from third parties and an artist's past work a lot of the time)

If anyone has a better idea for how to title these, please tell me. Not decided on date vs no date plus the current wording is a bit ugly.

I think the problem is that it's quite an overwhelming list if you have no idea where to start. Maybe it'd be easier to give each genre its own subsection. So instead of listing them alphabetically, listing them genretically, if that makes sense? If someone who is mostly interested in pop, they'd have an easier time finding things they are likely to like.

As for the actual content, I like that it's a big dumb raw list. If everyone starts to hate that then I can do something, though. This is plenty subjective, but I was thinking about bolding the artists and records that appear to have the most hype / be of interest to the most people or commenting a list with those for a more stripped down overview. Would that be useful?

Yeah, that'd be nice. I don't have time to listen to all of them, even though I would like to. It's a very extensive list, which I like, good work on it, but it's too much for me personally.

Marvin Gaye - You’re the Man (Soul)

    Uh, what?

Marvin Gaye’s 1972 lost album, You’re the Man, will finally be released March 29th, just days before what would’ve been the musician’s 80th birthday, April 2nd. You’re the Man was supposed to be the follow-up to Gaye’s 1971 classic, What’s Going On. Gaye recorded the tracks for the would-be record in Detroit and Los Angeles during a particularly prolific period, but none of them – save the titular single – were released at the time.

Unkle - The Road: Part II (Art Pop, Trip Hop)

I've also been a fan of Unkle since the DJ Shadow days. Psyence Fiction is one of my all time favorite albums, and while they haven't yet topped it IMO, they still put out pretty consistently solid albums and The Road Part 1 was great... so I'm really looking forward to finally listening to The Road: Part II when I get time. I highly recommend people check them out.

p.s. Thanks for making this weekly list again, Whom. It's much appreciated.

I really suggest everyone checks out the new Quelle Chris. I think he's the most exciting emerging rapper in the game right now, but he's still flying somewhat under the radar. His 2017 release was my aoty, and his collab with Jean Grae last year was some super sharp contemporary political commentary. His stuff is pretty hazy and super backpacky, but I think he balances this amazing line between saying nothing and saying everything at the same time.

Otherwise, not too many names jump out at me here. I'll probably check out Logic's new record, only because I've been listening to everything he's put out, I guess out of morbid curiosity.

The 'lost' Marvin Gaye album could just be a marketing ploy, but it'll probably be worth looking into.

Edit: Okay. Don't listen to Logic's now record.
Edit2: Missed Billy Woods on this list (under a different name), probably my aoty so far.

I've never thought a Quelle Chris project was more than "okay" since I found him back with either Innocent Country or Lullabies for the Broken Brain (I think the latter?), but I keep going back to try more. I've never been on the same wavelength as him musically and it all comes out dull to me, but there's clearly a respectable creative mind behind it all and I feel like someday I'll stumble upon one that completely blows my mind.

Guess I'll be repeating that here.

Vltimas release is wonderful. If you like metal, it's a fine supergroup with people from Mayhem (guitar), Cryptopsy (drums) and Morbid Angel (vocal). Check here.
