In this piece, Dave Noyze skirts the gap between weird as hell and beautiful and creates some truly fascinating sonic textures that have had me coming back again and again for years. It's noise electronic that I don't absolutely hate listening to!
You know, I was going to reply something snarky like, "what the hell are you smoking?" But honestly, the more I listen to this, strangely, the more I actually like it. And I am not a fan of...

And I am not a fan of experimental or ambient music at all (though I am a fan of spatial audio, which this is very reminiscent of). ~music is broadening my musical appreciation horizons every other day it seems.
Hah. New Country is about the only thing I actively despise. Good luck convincing me otherwise on that one. I love all varieties of Bluegrass, Folk, Roots Rock, etc... but New Country? Yuck....

Honestly though, there are very few genres I dislike. I don't even mind more uptempo ambient music, e.g. Orbital but for the most part find the genre too new-agey, slow paced and boring. Ironically I don't actually even mind a lot of new age music though and listen to a lot of weird shit in that genre like Gregorian chants, Gyuto monks, Tuvan throat singing, etc.
Mostly you /r/listentothis guys/gals are just impressing me with the sheer depth into genres you dive (exposing me to artists I have never heard before within them) not so much exposing me to new genres themselves.
If by New Country, you mean pop country, then I'm of no help. Pop country is, as far as I'm aware, an irredeemable over-produced garbage fire genre that exists to sell beer, lifted trucks, and...
If by New Country, you mean pop country, then I'm of no help. Pop country is, as far as I'm aware, an irredeemable over-produced garbage fire genre that exists to sell beer, lifted trucks, and american flags. (If someone wants to prove me wrong on that PLEASE DO, I don't like dismissing genres out of hand but I just have not seen anything worth it!)
But if by New Country you mean stuff like Sturgill Simpson, well then you're honestly missing out on a pretty cool scene that's starting to get big.
Yeah I was generally referring to Pop Country... aka Top 40 Country radio garbage. But I am not a fan of any form of New Country either. I can "appreciate" it when in the right form, like that...

I can "appreciate" it when in the right form, like that Sturgill Simpson set on Tiny Desk, but that's not the same as enjoying it. There is just something about that twang and vocal tone that makes me wince when I hear it. :/
Now something like Nickle Creek (progressive/pop bluegrass) on the other hand... hell yeah, that stuff is rad!
The Infamous Stringdusters, Billy Strings, Sam Bush, New Grass Revival, Keller Williams, Trout Steak Revival, Leftover Salmon, The Punch Brothers - that should be plenty to get you started....

LOL thanks but, trust me, I got rock/revival/fusion/progressive/pop bluegrass on lock. Me and @arghdos will get along fine, I imagine. And if/when ~ gets popular enough I can unleash my back...

And if/when ~ gets popular enough I can unleash my back catalogue of music and artists you will be seeing lots more of Chris Thile (Punch Brothers, Nickle Creek, Mutual Admiration Society, Goat Rodeo), artists from Copper Creek Records, bands from Telluride Bluegrass Festival, etc. You might get sick of it. :P

Do the Dixie Chicks still count as Pop Country or is this a genre limited to current top hits about someone's tractor or how we're going to drink and bang until dawn or some shit?

You've got a bunch of folks who were on the mod team at /r/listentothis posting here, you're definitely going to get some weird and out there stuff in this group ;) And I'm glad it's sitting well...

And I'm glad it's sitting well with you! I've always found that while there's some fantastic experimental music, a good chunk of it takes a lot of warming up to, and often it's hard to tell what the best route to do that is. So it's nice when a song comes along that makes it a little easier.
Oh I know... I'm a huge fan of the subreddit (and consider evilnight a friend). But you listentothis guys/gals still consistently manage to surprise me with your posts here. ;)

What other genres of music do you not like that we can try to convince you to like?

I may not be a /r/listentothis mod but music is my passion too, hence /r/coversongs.
Where are you on rap/hip-hop?
