Exercise montage music
I'm building a playlist with that classic exercise montage aesthetic. Right now it's a bunch of new retro wave, montage tracks from Rocky, Top Gun, Rad, Karate Kid, etc.
track listing
- Robert Parker - Hardbody
- Flash Arnold - Flash Workout
- Frank Harris - Training Sequence - Orig '85
- Wishing On A Star on - Montage (From "Team America: World Police")
- Bonnie Tyler - Holding Out for a Hero - From "Footloose" Soundtrack
- King Kobra - Iron Eagle (Never Say Die)
- Bill Conti - Gonna Fly Now
- Carlos Knight & the Bay City Boys - Champion of My Heart
- Dennie Christian - Push It to the Limit (Scarface)
- Vince DiCola on - Training Montage - From "Rocky IV" Soundtrack
- Europe - The Final Countdown
- Cheap Trick on - Mighty Wings - From "Top Gun" Original Soundtrack
- Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger
- John Farnham - Break The Ice
- Robots With Rayguns - Sweat It Out
- Craig Wedren, Theodore Shapiro on - Higher and Higher / Wind
- Joe "Bean" Esposito - You're The Best
- Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone - From "Top Gun" Original Soundtrack
- The Midnight - The Equaliser (Not Alone)
- SilverHawk - Pumping Iron
- John Farnham - Thunder in Your Heart
- Muscle - Feel The Steel
- Mitch Murder - Guile's Theme
- Vincenzo Salvia - Extreme Pizza Power
- Flash Arnold - The Final Chase
If you have any suggestions for tracks that maintain this aesthetic, it'd be appreciated.
You included Holding Out for a Hero and Kenny Loggins' Danger Zone but not his main theme from Footloose? For shame! :P
The most memorable song from Flashdance, Michael Sembello's Maniac is probably also worth including as well.
And there are lots of others 80s songs, especially hair metal, I can think of that might fit the aesthetic too:
Van Halen - Jump
Van Halen - Right Now
Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer
Guns N' Roses – Welcome to the Jungle
Twisted Sister - We're Not Gonna Take It
Scorpions - Rock You Like A Hurricane
Mötley Crüe - Kickstart My Heart
Pat Benatar - Hit Me With Your Best Shot
Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round
Men Without Hats - Safety Dance
There are also a few 90s songs that might work too:
Technotronic - Pump Up The Jam
C+C Music Factory - Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)
Reel 2 Real - I Like To Move It
Ace of Base - Beautiful Life
House of Pain - Jump Around
Kriss Kross - Jump
MANIAC! oooooh baby. Also, that video is exhausting. It's funny, I had the Footloose theme in here when I first posted, but I removed it. I replaced it with 'Never' -- the track from scene where he's drinking and driving then decides to run and jump around a warehouse.
This is a grrrrreeeat list. I miss hair metal so much. I should just get back into it.
Came here to say "Maniac." Now that that's been said, if you like hair metal, there's a ton of stuff you could add. At the very least:
My internet's being shitty today, but when it comes back, I'll round up a few more for you.
Again, for shame! :P I never stopped listening to hair/glam metal since even the modern revival stuff tickles my fancy. E.g. The Darkness, Steel Panther, and Striker.
oh man, Steel Panther is amazing. It's such a consistent genre. I think this is going to start a season for me.
I’ve been listening to these for years while I run: Blood Bros Series.
They’re actual montages from movies, interspersed with dialogue. I think the quality of the first two is far better than the third, but that’s just me.
Edit: in my excitement to share, I forgot to mention that there’s a heap of songs from your list in these montages!
I found these last night! they're KILLER. I think montage music might be the best ever. The new retro wave scene has a lot of exercise montage music with titles that are 100% on the nose. I love it all.
Push It to the Limit on endless repeat.
Bonus points if you're using this YTMND page to listen.
Speaking of YTMND, while definitely not an exercise song, my fav loop from there is LEEKSPIN. I can honestly listen to it for hours at a time. It's surprisingly meditative.
yeah, this is definitely in there. Such a killer track. I feel like I should be lifting a lot of heavy objects and jumping rope.
I think you'd really enjoy this album and should be able to find a track or two from it for your playlist: Meteor - Defender of the Fleet
(I linked to the album on Spotify, but the full album is also available on YouTube and Bandcamp)
holy crap, Deimos! This is amazing. I had no idea there was so much gold out there. I'm surprised this stuff isn't being utilized more for film... unless I'm completely out of the loop. Thanks! This owns.
