What are some of your favorite music videos?
I sometimes feel like music videos get the short stick and aren't appreciated as the unique and fascinating art form that they've become. I think a lot of us got into them back in the heyday of MTV/VH1 but they've gone far beyond that in the internet age. I'd like to invite everyone to share some of their favorites in this thread - new or old, popular or obscure, anything goes, and share as many as you like.
Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name. I think it really gives the track a lighter mood ; if you were to listen to it without the video you'd perceive it quite differently. It also makes the track more accessible I think.
Haru Nemuri -Trust Nothing but Love in the no budget category.
Amenra - A Solitary Reign , just awesome cinematography.
Amenra are intense live!
Gantz Graf
The Rest Of My Days
I Say Fever
Light It Up
Remind Me
Windowlicker
Poney Part 1
Anything by Hiro Murai, really. All of the staff picks here are absolutely fantastic!
It's not even my birthday and I'm 100% not disappointed by that.
DJ Fresh's Gold Dust never fails to make me smile. There's just so much joy going on.
Chaka Khan's Like Sugar is a solid gold slice of editing genius. Also some top notch dance moves. (see also the seminal Star Guitar video for more of this sort of thing, although it's mostly CGI, it was huge when it came out)
From the era of Chris Cunningham making weird but amazing mini-movies for videos, Squarepusher's full-length Come on my Selector is one of my favourites. Cunningham also directed Bjork's All is Full of Love and Aphex's Come to Daddy
On the zero-ish budget end, Church of The Cosmic Skull's Cold Sweat video is really well done and evokes exactly the right tone for their music.
I don't know if its my absolute favorite, but I laugh every time I think about Biggies Hypnotize video. It's so over the top and the absolute height of 90s rap music video content.
Miike Snow - Genghis Khan is one I regularly pull up. The song itself is fantastic, but the music video really pulls it together. A fun spin on older spy movies.
Fast Romantics - Julia has some really cool trickery that combines old (Fred Astaire!) and new footage seamlessly into one.
NIN/Taylor Swift - The Perfect Drug/Shake It Off is what got me interested in taking Taylor Swift seriously and enjoying her music. I still bring this one up when talking about either artist.
Ginger Root - Loneliness Beautiful VHS aesthetics.
nelward - Carry Me Along feat. Blythe Bonnie More aesthetics.
Dua Lipa - Levitating Even more aesthetics but anime.
Also who needs a new thread when there's a perfectly good one already lying around.
While there are some good replies here I'm surprised no one has posted the best music video of all time yet.
