My process is often just messing about with all kinds of textures, effects and tools in a "wrong" way. I put on some good tunes, get into a creative flow and just go wild on blending modes, masking and adjustment layers in Photoshop, for example. While I've done graphic design professionally for over a decade, this particular way of making art is just for unwinding and meditation. No goal but to see where the piece takes me this time.
I haven't really done much of actual real life painting since middle school, I think. Somehow I never had the epiphany that I can do the same method of just fucking about with colors and textures on an actual canvas. So, thanks to my wife's acryllic paints and her repeatedly telling me to try them out, I did. And I'm having so much fun! I love making weird rough textures with different mix-ins and improvised paint applying apparatuses. I love picking/blending some nice tones, then hardly mixing them with each other and smearing them with a piece of cardboard. Or maybe a holder from an empty roll of tape. By the time I have something on the canvas I usually know where the piece should actually head and maybe apply some thought to what I'm doing next to properly finish them.
Why did nobody tell me painting is so fun?!
(They did. I think it was just my executive dysfunction doing it's magic.) -

I'll try to translate the lyrics to the best of my ability. Huge respect for people who manage to keep the intent intact when bridging languages and cultures in translating text, heh.

'You are worth living for' by TuliojaHey dear
I'll only ask for this one thing
Understand me
As you've been doing
Because you're the only one
Yeah, you're the only oneI don't know what good deed I've done to deserve you
But I'm so grateful
Oh so grateful
Every day I see you smile
It reminds me life is worth living
You are worth living forI love you
Yeah, I love you
Thank you for being present
I love you
Thank you for being precisely youAnd I need you
If you don't hold me down
My head
It's bound to fly away
And then I'll be floating out there, somewhere
Try to shoot me back down
You won't miss, you're the oneMost altruistic, empathetic, the loveliest
and two thousand more superlatives
I wrote this song
when I realized
I don't have the words
To tell you how much you mean to meI love you
Yeah, I love you
Thank you for being present
I love you
Thank you for being precisely you
Some cultural context: Saying "I love you" in a song is a bit unusual for us somewhat reserved finns, since we don't really use it to say we love things or concepts. You won't hear a finn saying "Minä rakastan tätä mutakakkua (I love this mud cake)", for example. My lyrics tend to be a bit more harder to parse sometimes, so much like the sound of this song it's lyrics are meant to be extremely emotionally honest and simple.

I already loved Blood Cultures and skateboarding games, so their music in this is just a match made in heaven. Vibes are immaculate. I'm starting to get comfortable with the skating and I can say it's not just a fun artsy experience: it's a real good handling skateboarding game too. I love how you get the little still photo overlay when you trick over the manholes and such. Runs super well on the steam deck, but I've also been pumping up the volume on my home theater for this.
This is such a stupidly good year to be enjoying new video games.

I have a quest 3 but not being on the meta ecosystem and having that dongle for the video streaming from a PC is a huge thing for wireless VR gaming. I might sell my Quest and buy the frame. I was just playing Lumines Arise in VR last night and the amount of sparkling FX really makes the video compression apparent at times on my current setup. Having a dedicated connection for the streaming with the dongle and the foveated streaming should make games like that look loads nicer

I’ve spent so much time this year trying to figure out why videos load on my mac and TV but my beefy PC that is hardwired just wasn’t having it. Ive scoured the obscure reddit threads, tinkered with my ethernet settings, the codecs and the about:page. The update that brought the new UI fixed the issues I was having. So hooray!

Are you describing your message or mine? Jokes aside I don't think by saying that it would mean yours is somehow more objective. Especially when you sidestep all the claims about our "bright future" in our climate plan. But yes the truth never is black and white.
- Agreed.
- Since 1987 Kokoomus (currently lead by our PM Orpo) has been in the opposition for a grand total of two times. I am going to put a good bit of the blame on their party especially since they campaign with and brand themselves as the "finance politics party"
- Absolutely.
- In my eyes we handled covid surprisingly well, but yes, much like every country we spent a lot of money on it.
- See point #2. I've yet to see a single expert state that the heavy cuts brought on by our current government would generate growth. In my partisan view, we are taking short term gains at the cost of future growth. Somewhat of a specialty of Kokoomus (the Coalition).
- Again, nobody knows the future or can read minds, but in the now the consensus is overwhelmingly negative for our long term prospects brought on by the cuts and changes brought on by the parties currently in charge. In May of this year, 2/3 of people polled by Uutissuomalainen viewed Orpo's government's performance as poor or very poor.
- The forecast by Finlands Bank downgraded their expectation for growth for the rest of 2025 from 0,5% to 0,3%. Nothing to get too excited about while we are also doing our best to cripple our public healthcare, education and selling our forests and essential services to multinational venture capitalists. As a recent example, the potential sale of Posti, as floated by Orpo & co.
If Russia stopped being Russia, that would be a great thing for us.
Hard agree there.

From what I can tell his coalition has only managed to work towards selling our natural resources to foreign private entities, cut funding for education, welfare and public healthcare while making our economy worse and worse each passing quarter. He campaigned on bringing Finns 100k new jobs and I’m pretty sure our unemployment numbers are worse than in multiple decades. The Kokoomus/Persu coalition is the most unpopular one we’ve had in ages.
This article is not based on reality except maybe in the loosest, most dishonest number spinning ”technically correct” kind of sense. Pardon my finnish but mitähän vittua täällä houritaan? Go see a finnish subreddit and see what the consensus is on where we are at and who is working overtime to serve the rich and punish the poor and less able.
By Storm (Formerly known as Injury Reserve) released their new album today. By the Time I Get To Phoenix, their last record as Injury Reserve is one of my favorite albums from this decade. Made even more poignant with the passing of Groggs and the themes on tracks like Top Picks For You. Anyway, the new album is as heavy-hearted and real as the previous one but with a bit less abrasive soundscape. It's the perfect length and I don't think it has a dull moment on it. The final track, titled GGG, is as beautiful as it is gut-wrenching. Time will tell if I will be listening to this for years as well, but it really hits me in my feelings. Hurts just the right way.
