Let's talk about this year's crop of Eurovision songs
The contest is still more than a month away, but all songs have been released, so let's have a listen and a discussion!
Eurovisionworld has links to all the songs (ordered by how likely the bookmakers consider it for them to win the contest). There's also a YouTube and a Spotify playlist of all the songs.
So which songs are your favourites? Guilty pleasures? Overrated, underrated? Most fun? Most excited to see performed live? Predictions? Etc.
There are a lot of good songs this year, in my opinion.
I think my favourite is Malta. Sure, it's a bit derivative of Israel's winning song from 2018, but I actually think this one is even better. And I'm a sucker for electro swing.
Second favourite: Germany. Just so much fun!
Oh Germany is glorious! A straight up tap solo as well. Outstanding work.
Loving Iceland's entry, although I don't think it's as strong as last year's effort. Though the dancing is still hilarious.
The UK's song is incredibly generic pop, but we should at least avoid a nul points year.
It's obligatory for me to root for a Nordic entry (don't ask me why, there are no such rules) and for 2021 there really is only one entry that has the whiff of quality about it.
Blind Channel – Dark Side (2021)
Finland's entry really takes me back to some early 2000's nu-metal headspace. Which I kinda like, now that I'm morphing into an old man in his late thirties!
No love for Iceland this year? Or don't you consider them to be Nordic?
Ha! They are most definitely in the Nordic gang. Gave them the secret password and eveything.
I'm torn. They were the stand-out song for me in last year's "lost" year. I still listen to it. In fact, it's currently in my headphones. But I wasn't blown away by this year's attempt. Finland have my douze points in 2021.
Agreed. Iceland was amazing last year, and this year's song is a step down.
It's a real shame ESC 2020 had to be cancelled. It would have been one of the all-time greats I think.
