Liz Cheney is talking about a third party run against Trump

CBS asked Cheney this weekend if she'd prefer Democrats to win in 2025, and she said, "I believe very strongly in the principles and ideals that have defined the Republican Party, but the Republican Party of today has made a choice and they haven't chosen the Constitution, and so I do think it presents a threat if the Republicans are in the majority in January 2025."

While I strongly disagree with almost everything she stands for politically, I have respect the fact that she has stood for her principles when so many Republicans have embraced the MAGA madness. I hope a run would sap support for Trump enough to offset what appears to be a growing disillusionment with Biden from Democrats.

I'm no fan of Biden, but I think a vote for Biden in 2024 (even ifnit means holding your nose) means a chance to vote for someone else in 2028. If Trump is elected in 2024, I don't know what comes after that.

I don't know. For all the MAGA madness I see in the media, the people I meet IRL seem much more reasonable and grounded. I don't know any people in the military, but I would like to think they would want to support someone who will support the democratic freedoms they fought and died for. I think also somebody like Liz Cheney could appeal to people on the right who don't like Trump but will never vote for a pro-choice candidate. I know plenty of people like that IRL.

It doesn't have to pull a ton of people to matter to the outcome. In closes races (they all seem to be close these days, when 5 percent margin is practically a landslide) , it doesn't take much to tip the balance.

Republicans storm out of briefing as Congress battles over Israel and Ukraine aid package

A classified briefing for senators on the White House's request for aid for Israel and Ukraine became "heated" Tuesday, with Republican members storming out of the meeting.

    ...

But it fell apart, senators from both parties said, after Republicans began asking about the border. GOP members in both chambers have demanded serious changes to immigration policy to address rising migrant crossings in exchange for passing new aid for Ukraine.

    ...

“What most, or many, Republican senators want to talk about here is the border, and Sen. Schumer would prefer not to do that in this venue; obviously, there’s nobody there to talk about the border," Hawley continued, referring to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. "So that was a point of some heated disagreement.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said: “It started off pretty bad ... a lot of tension in the room because nobody talked about the border. In case you don’t have a television or you’ve been living in a cave, you would know that most Republicans feel like we need to address the broken border.”
