Liz Cheney is talking about a third party run against Trump
While I strongly disagree with almost everything she stands for politically, I have respect the fact that she has stood for her principles when so many Republicans have embraced the MAGA madness. I hope a run would sap support for Trump enough to offset what appears to be a growing disillusionment with Biden from Democrats.
I'm no fan of Biden, but I think a vote for Biden in 2024 (even ifnit means holding your nose) means a chance to vote for someone else in 2028. If Trump is elected in 2024, I don't know what comes after that.
I don't think she would pull any support from Trump. I don't think anyone would pull support from him - I don't think there's anyone left who's on the fence and would vote for someone other than trump, if only that person existed.
I don't know. For all the MAGA madness I see in the media, the people I meet IRL seem much more reasonable and grounded. I don't know any people in the military, but I would like to think they would want to support someone who will support the democratic freedoms they fought and died for. I think also somebody like Liz Cheney could appeal to people on the right who don't like Trump but will never vote for a pro-choice candidate. I know plenty of people like that IRL.
It doesn't have to pull a ton of people to matter to the outcome. In closes races (they all seem to be close these days, when 5 percent margin is practically a landslide) , it doesn't take much to tip the balance.
I agree. In most of my discussions with conservative family members the vibe I get is that they're demonizing Biden more than they like Trump. So if a conservative alternative appears, that allows them to still vote against Biden.
