Offbeat Fridays – The thread where offbeat headlines become front page news
Tildes is a very serious site, where we discuss very serious matters like capitalism, society and company culture. Tags culled from the highest voted topics from the last seven days, if anyone was mystified.
But one of my favourite tags happens to be offbeat! Taking its original inspiration from Sir Nils Olav III, this thread is looking for any far-fetched offbeat
stories lurking in the newspapers. It may not deserve its own post, but it deserves a wider audience!

The Canadian Coast Guard is looking for lighthouse keepers. Here's what the job entails
Days at the lighthouse can be isolated and remote, according to former lighthouse keepers
I'm truly surprised not many have applied and they had to extend the deadline for another whole year. Free lodging. Is isolation really that bad for most human beings? Says you can bring a spouse or pets and some have internet and there's also satellite internet now..... Why is it so unpopular?
My best guess is that the salary is too low, and many who super want to do this can't afford to?

Honestly it's the groceries for me. With the internet and hobby supplies I could do a lot. But I prefer to have more control of what I eat than a monthly grocery drop off and gardening (which I'm very bad at).
Also I have cats and idk that this would fly.
The salary is low but your expenses are low too so it may balance out. (I worked a live-in position until recently and sometimes the trade offs are worth it. Sometimes not. )
Oh~ what kind of jobs still have live in options?
That's true, monthly drop off is pretty harsh. it also means zero dinners out and I wouldn't trust my fresh veggies to be in good shape after that many steps in between.
Housing jobs for universities for one! I have not left the field just moved up, but I rather liked it.
