He spent years pushing homeopathy, including trying to keep homeopathy as something prescribable by the English NHS. (We even used to have Homeopathic Hospitals in the NHS.
I dunno. I'm getting palliative cancer care at the moment and I have to spend a surprising amount of time telling people that I'm not interested in whatever dumb idea they're pushing at me.
Cancer is never good news, but in terms of the monarchy this is good news. Either he survives and he's not the king who beat cancer and so republicanism is less possible, or he dies and William gets in and William is not as hated as Charles is so republicanism is less possible.
For people outside the UK wondering why we're not yet a republic: I honestly believe it's because people like Tony Blair, Ken Livingstone, or Boris Johnstone exist, and we see who'd be in the running for president and goodness they're just terrible human beings. The Queen was perceived to be hands-off -- a dignified figure. She was clearly intelligent and had a sense of humour, so she was popular, even grudgingly so among some of the republican groups.

I certainly don't feel like monarchs should have any real power, and also get the commonwealths exist because colonialism and all the shit that wrought, but also, I guess there's something vaguely comforting about having some sort of connection with some other countries around the world? I dunno, I'm sure I'm opening myself up to a lot of valid critiques, which is fine, but I will qualify I'm more just musing and not really stating a strong opinion.

I've heard, although I can't remember where from, that if the UK ever voted to become a Republic the plan would be for the monarch to simply relocate to Canada.
