Ok here are most of the conservative news sources listed in the article and holy cow it is just a basket of deplorable misinformation. I don't think any of these are considered anything but propaganda and nonsense, where the most reasonable one is run by Rupert Fucking Murdoch:

    • Fox News
    • Julie Kelly
    • Tucker Carlson
    • Substack
    • Epoch Times
    • Gateway Pundit
    • Brietbart
    • Daily Wire
    • Facebook
    • TikTok
    • Rumble

I think that the various lawsuits Dominion Voting Systems filed against conservative outlets for pushing conspiracy crap caused the current paradigm. The large outlets that had assets making them worth suing for misinfo could no longer afford to be as crazy as their listeners wanted to be - see all the folks saying that Fox is too "mainstream" or not conservative enough, it's because they got super fucking burned with the Dominion suit and are now gun-shy.

Some random nazi asshole on Substack doesn't have this problem, and can say more or less what they want with less risk of repercussions.

Conservatism has gone so far beyond rule of law that defamatory speech is mandatory to attract an audience. Outlets that don't stoop to that level fall off the leading edge of the news space.

I think it happened before that, because you had Trump criticizing Fox while he was President. I think he started criticizing them during his 2016 campaign. A lot of those fringe conservative "news" outlets and various pundits started gaining steam around that time. I don't really follow any of them but if Fox pulled more to the fringe to keep up with those after that criticism, then yeah the voting system fraud conspiracy slander might have moderated them a little bit again, but those alternatives I think had already been gaining significant readers/viewers before the voting system conspiracy garbage came up.

I think larger players like Fox were always a bit more moderate because they were aware that something like the Dominion lawsuit was a possibility, as well as having some inertia from a saner period of news. Fox used to have their token "liberals" and the commentators like Shep Smith that they kept around to show how they were so fair and balanced; now that's not even a positive tagline for them anymore.

Tear down the inconsistencies and oppression of culture-sized narratives all you want, but we're seeing in real time what happens when there's a fragmented, rage baiting for-profit information system built on fear.

A confused and acared electorate is a dangerous one.
