Part of me wants to be cynical and say this is just NRA fear-mongering, designed to drum up additional donations from their supporters. The article does a good job outlining that this isn't just a money issue, it's a problem of other businesses (In this case, insurance and financial firms) simply view the NRA as too big of a risk to work with.

The NRA has made it next to impossible for this to happen and have fostered a culture of fear and hatred around gun users that I find appalling.
It used to be about promoting safe gun usage. Now it's about manipulating gun owners to give them money out of fear.
