Deputy Rosenstein was in charge of the Mueller Probe because Sessions had recused himself from the investrigation. It follows that if the AG is somebody that has not been recused then the oversight of the Mueller Probe goes to them.
I think Whitaker was installed for this reason, he has specifically called the Probe a 'witch hunt'. Kavanaugh believes you cannot indict a sitting President. This was a strategic move, and the Democrats winning the House last night puts time on the clock to obstruct the investigation and protect the accused traitor sitting behind the Resolute Desk, before they're sworn in in January.

True, the subtext was there in the resignation. If at all, I doubt Whitaker will do much to dispel the air of impropriety around his appointment. That includes recusing himself as Sessions did....

It's pretty transparent what's going on with this whole thing because normally the deputy AG would take Sessions' place.

The article is short and lacks any real clarifying information so I'll update this as more comes in. Rosenstein has been seen at the White House for a 4PM meeting with Trump so things still in flux.

Thanks for adding updates - if a more-comprehensive article comes up that you think is better, let me know and I can change the topic's link.

With a Democrat-controlled House Mueller can only be fired for so long.

They have to actually get into the House in January first. It's only the day after midterms and Trump isn't wasting any time. And if Trump fires Mueller before then I'm not sure what comes after that.

I will too. But it's a mystery to me as far as government action and what citizens could do beyond that.

That presumes there will be no repeat of the Reichstag fire.
