I'd be interested to hear the side of someone who is in favour of this. It makes me deeply uneasy, I can't in good conscience say that I see any path to fixing racial discrimination by introducing racial discrimination, but I also know that the racist brigade will be out in force jumping on this as a talking point and I want to at least give the underlying argument a fair hearing without their bullshit.

i don't know that it particularly matters in the grand scheme of things or even needs a real justification, to be honest, because it's probably a poorly conceived one-off and probably had no intentions of being a thing beyond this one time. in some respects i'd argue this basically isn't deserving of a "story" (and neither are most of the instances of things like this) because invariably, they're just outrage bait for white americans who want to feel like they're being persecuted because such things occasionally happen--and they also usually fail to even tell or update people on why such minority-only events get held, even if there's a valid rationale for them.

Makes me wonder exactly how they would know you were the press unless you skipped along with a press badge. Which makes me wonder why not just not announce your press status? I have no qualms with lying when faced with a situation like this, I'd view it as a rather just means of protest.

I recommend people not turn to twitter or Facebook for a balanced discussion on this situation. Hell, I am not even going on Reddit anymore.
