    This is a big, if symbolic step. I say that because there's no way that 2/3 of the US Senate will vote to remove Trump from office. There's also never been a successful removal of office of a U.S....

    This is a big, if symbolic step. I say that because there's no way that 2/3 of the US Senate will vote to remove Trump from office.

    There's also never been a successful removal of office of a U.S. President before. There have been 4 Presidents who went through the impeachment process:

    • Bill Clinton was found not guilty (although I think he should have been convicted)
    • Andrew Johnson was also found not guilty
    • James Buchanan never even went to trial
    • Richard Nixon resigned but would have likely been removed from office

      Just a nitpick, but technically "being impeached" means that articles of impeachment get voted on by a majority of the House. So only Johnson and Clinton have been impeached.

        Nitpicking is kind of important on a subject like this. I've edited my comment to better reflect that Buchanan and Johnson went through the process but were never "indicted".

        It's funny to think that it "happens so rarely", yet it was so obviously going to happen at one point or another that the NYT had this article ready to go (and probably had it ready to go for...
