“Our financial position is dire, stemming from substantial declines in mail volume, a broken business model and a management strategy that has not adequately addressed these issues,”

Never mind that Congress hamstrung the Post Office back in 2006, when it required it to pay into a pension fund for all current and future employees for the next 50 years.

John Oliver did a piece on this recently

From 2004 to 2006, the USPS made $6 billion in profits. By the end of 2019, it was $160.9 billion in debt, with $119.3 billion due to retiree benefits, according to the Government Accountability Office.

Which is needless to say an insane requirement for any business, much less one that is a self-funded public service

Can you provide some clarity on what you actually just said?

“This organizational change will capture operating efficiencies by providing clarity and economies of scale that will allow us to reduce our cost base and capture new revenue,”

Can you provide some clarity on what you actually just said?

Hopefully ballots can be handled like in my jurisdiction: Public drop boxes. They're tamper-resistant boxes that are installed temporarily for people to come up to and drop off their ballots.

This is actually how my precinct in Michigan chose to handle it. We got our ballot by mail about 3 weeks before the election on August 4. And there was a note included that said that to ensure everyone's ballot made it in on time, they would much prefer that you drop it off at the clerk's office. Which we did, since it's only half a mile away. Still way more convenient than standing in a line.
