Twitter requests deletion of three inciteful tweets from Donald Trump. If tweets remain undeleted, account will remain locked.

@Twitter Safety:
As a result of the unprecedented and ongoing violent situation in Washington, D.C., we have required the removal of three @realDonaldTrump Tweets that were posted earlier today for repeated and severe violations of our Civic Integrity policy. https://t.co/k6OkjNG3bM

IMO, this is too little and too late.

Twitter has basically already confirmed he'll be gone at noon on January 20th, I can sort of understand why you wouldn't do it, since it could set a bad precedent, but I also think there's a difference between his personal account and the official @POTUS account, and the POTUS one is the one that should get the "protection of the office."

This is the way I'd like to see it as well. Save the protection for the official account, and let the president have his personal account and be accountable.

Amendment is incorrect; the tweets were already deleted by Trump by the time I posted it and his account will remain locked.

Uhh, you sure? The tweets are not visible—but they're clearly not deleted. If you visit Trump's profile there's at least two stand in messages, that state:

This Tweet is no longer available because it violated the Twitter Rules. Learn more

So there's something that's clearly still not-deleted on DJT's end, and my understand is that Twitter is requesting hard deletion from DJT himself. As for the status of the lock, this tweet says:

This means that the account of @realDonaldTrump will be locked for 12 hours following the removal of these Tweets. If the Tweets are not removed, the account will remain locked.

Which I interpret to mean lock expiry = time of hard tweet deletion + 12 hours.

Twitter bans Michael Flynn, Sidney Powell in QAnon account purge edit: An interesting consequence of the Qanon purge: Twitter's QAnon purge is doing a number on Rudy's following

Twitter bans Michael Flynn, Sidney Powell in QAnon account purge

Twitter on Friday removed the accounts of Michael Flynn, Sidney Powell and other high-profile supporters of President Donald Trump who promoted the QAnon conspiracy theory.

The permanent bans are among the highest profile that the company has instituted as part of its efforts to crack down on misinformation and calls for violence.

Twitter also removed the account of Ron Watkins, the administrator of the website 8kun, which was formerly named 8chan and hosts posts from Q, the false digital “prophet” at the heart of the QAnon conspiracy theory.

And another noteworthy ban from yesterday: Trump-Supporting Lawyer Lin Wood Has Been Permanently Banned From Twitter

And another noteworthy ban from yesterday:
Trump-Supporting Lawyer Lin Wood Has Been Permanently Banned From Twitter

Lin Wood, a defamation lawyer and supporter of President Trump, has been permanently banned from Twitter, a platform he used to promote yesterday's insurrection and to spread conspiracy theories about the presidential election.

Twitter had placed a temporary suspension on Wood’s account for a tweet that incited violence, but instituted a permanent ban after the 68-year-old attorney publicly said he would begin posting from a second account. Doing so triggered the platform’s rule on “ban evasion,” according to a Twitter spokesperson, leading to Wood’s permanent removal from the platform.

In between fabulist tweets accusing political figures and celebrities of sexually abusing children and casting doubt on the election, Wood has warned about the day he’d be removed from Twitter. On Parler, where he has amassed more than 500,000 followers, his recent messages included one that said that Vice President Mike Pence should be executed by firing squad.

Another semi-related bit of news: Apple Has Threatened To Ban Parler From The App Store

    Another semi-related bit of news:
Apple Has Threatened To Ban Parler From The App Store

Apple has given Parler, the social network favored by conservatives and extremists, an ultimatum to implement a full moderation plan of its platform within the next 24 hours or face expulsion from the App store.

In an email sent this morning and obtained by BuzzFeed News, Apple wrote to Parler’s executives that there had been complaints that the service had been used to plan and coordinate the storming of the US Capitol by President Donald Trump’s supporters on Wednesday. The insurrection left five people dead, including a police officer.

"We have received numerous complaints regarding objectionable content in your Parler service, accusations that the Parler app was used to plan, coordinate, and facilitate the illegal activities in Washington D.C. on January 6, 2021 that led (among other things) to loss of life, numerous injuries, and the destruction of property,” Apple wrote to Parler. “The app also appears to continue to be used to plan and facilitate yet further illegal and dangerous activities.”

Apple said that “to ensure there is no interruption of the availability of your app on the App Store,” Parler was required to submit an update and a “requested moderation improvement plan within 24 hours of the date of the message,” which was sent on Friday morning. Apple said if it did not receive an update from the company within that time frame, the app would be removed from the App store.
