Twitter requests deletion of three inciteful tweets from Donald Trump. If tweets remain undeleted, account will remain locked.
@Twitter Safety:
As a result of the unprecedented and ongoing violent situation in Washington, D.C., we have required the removal of three @realDonaldTrump Tweets that were posted earlier today for repeated and severe violations of our Civic Integrity policy. https://t.co/k6OkjNG3bM
At this rate, I expect Twitter to eventually deplatform him; and despite the inevitable theatrics, I doubt Republican politicians will truly care. The number of sycophantic Trump allies diminishes by the day, and Trump may have just burned those who remain.
Twitter has basically already confirmed he'll be gone at noon on January 20th, I can sort of understand why you wouldn't do it, since it could set a bad precedent, but I also think there's a difference between his personal account and the official @POTUS account, and the POTUS one is the one that should get the "protection of the office."
This is the way I'd like to see it as well. Save the protection for the official account, and let the president have his personal account and be accountable.
Meta: This is an evolving event, but I've amended the title slightly to clarify that DJT's account will remain locked by Twitter until the tweets are deleted. Following that, the account will continue to remain locked for a further 12 hours.
Amendment is incorrect; the tweets were already deleted by Trump by the time I posted it and his account will remain locked.
Uhh, you sure? The tweets are not visible—but they're clearly not deleted. If you visit Trump's profile there's at least two stand in messages, that state:
So there's something that's clearly still not-deleted on DJT's end, and my understand is that Twitter is requesting hard deletion from DJT himself. As for the status of the lock, this tweet says:
Which I interpret to mean
lock expiry = time of hard tweet deletion + 12 hours
.Oh, hmmm, you might be right yeah. My bad.
Facebook also removed one of Trump's posts earlier today too.
And a related article from Casey Newton:
It's time to deplatform Trump
Facebook later blocked him from posting for 24 hours too.
Edit: and Snapchat now too.
