There's a pattern of the super-wealthy flocking to New Zealand. I think how great the country did during the COVID crisis only helped push this further. Besides Larry Page and Peter Thiel, I read that Gabe Newell (founder of Valve, certainly a billionaire as well by now) moved there and seriously considers moving his company over as well.

By the way, if anyone is curious, Passports.io is a great reference for this sort of stuff. (The whole Flag Theory network is a how-to-do-things-if-you-have-money reference) https://passports.io/...

Yeah to be honest I don't fully understand it. It almost feels like a rich-hype thing. There's not THAT many advantages attached to NZ citizenship. European citizenship is far more valuable and although it's super frowned upon by the EU, the golden passport scheme is still alive and well via Cyprus and Malta.

Yeah, I dunno, maybe at first it was but i suspect there's a "rich guys are doing it so I'll do it too cause I'm rich, this is such a special club" effect to it.

That's part of it. However, I've read in many places that NZ will be almost unscathed by climate change. It would be the ideal place for one's progeny.

I’m eyeing it as a middle class American. I think I already qualify for a working visa.

My wife and I could make the move. However, it would be so costly that we'd be starting all over again financially. We're looking at dual citizenship with Canada instead.
