It is heartening that the two parties Modi will have to court to form a government are pretty solidly secular, which will potentially hold the most ardent forms of Hindu nationalism at bay. This is a much more promising result than I (admittedly a not very informed American) had expected based on the way the run-up to the election was being covered here.
No political party is actually secular in India. TDP/JDU are also like that. Ironically secularism word was added in constitution by Indira Gandhi during national emergency period. Her candidature...

This is honestly the best result I could've realistically expected and far beyond my most optimistic expectations. It's still not a good result, but that's where we're at.

Narendra Modi is an authoritarian asshole. While this is not exactly a win against him, it does weaken him a slight bit.
