Why are hundreds of criminal cases being dismissed in Anchorage?

    This is not what we mean by defund the police! There need to be restorative and preventative systems in place before you take away the current system of consequences for violence and anti-social behavior.

    I would say this could be a great opportunity to start building those systems and see if the need for prosecutors is reduced, as I expect it would be, but that requires resources that don't seem to be available here.

    Wow this really paints an awful picture. I really wish it dove into some of the reasons that prosecutors have left the office. Is there a set of policies that made working as a prosecutor more difficult? They mention no law school in AK and I'd expect that means people move away to law school and find opportunities elsewhere. But it really sounds like a systemic breakdown.
