Chase Strangio: The first openly trans attorney to argue in front of the Supreme Court against the youth trans health care ban

Strangio grew up outside of Boston and came out as trans when he was in law school. Now 42, he’s an American Civil Liberties Union attorney whose legal career has included representing former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning, challenging a ban on transgender people serving in the military and helping win an LGBTQ+ worker-discrimination case at the Supreme Court. He’s also the father of a 12-year-old, the son of a father who supports Trump, and has a close relationship with his Army-veteran brother.

So everything in the above quote was before he came out.

It's okay--it was definitely a lot of information to fit into a short headline--and you did admirably--but sometimes we just need to use sentences.

Biden White House Is Discussing Preemptive Pardons for Those in Trump’s Crosshairs Well, this is not a good look or precedent. I expect Trump to follow suit, and perhaps every president from now on.

You can't hold helplessly to norms when the other side breaks them repeatedly. Norms only exist when both sides respect them. If one side is breaking a norm by threatening politically-motivated persecution, breaking a norm by preemptively pardoning the people threatened with persecution is the only rational move.

The other side of the coin is "legitimacy". If you leave those people vulnerable and the Republicans really do go mask off and start engaging in blatantly political trials, it gives resistance to their rule additional legitimacy. It leaves a lot of lives in the crosshairs though.

But Trump is lazy and doesn't pay attention to details. Nor does he care much about his followers. He left Giuliani completely unprotected for example. He might make a show of pardoning January 6 rioters this time but if a pardon doesn't bolster his image, he won't bother.
