That was really interesting video, thanks for the ping! I noticed that the comments (which, yes, are Youtube comments, and maybe full of shit, but I know literally nothing about boxing) seemed to suggest that this style would a kind of "revolution" in boxing. Since the video is over a year old, has there been a significant shift in boxing styles to adapt for this kind of thing, or was it more of a "gimmicky" style that only gets used by a few people?

I am far from an authoritative voice, but I don't think there's been too much adoption among current fighters. It's far more likely that he will be influencing the next few generations that are just getting into boxing. Lomachenko incorporates some unorthodox exercises and approaches into his training regimen, focusing on mental dexterity just as much as physical skills. Despite their obvious (at least to me) advantages, much of the traditional boxing fraternity has dismissed much of what he does as gimmicky for a long time. Part of that is orthodoxy bias, and part of that is due to accusations of favoritism (he fought for a world title in just his second pro fight - pretty much unheard of - and was already being hailed by some as one of the greatest of all time). There's a famous story is that his father/coach, Anatoly, took him entirely out of boxing around the age of seven or eight and enrolled him in Ukrainian folk dancing lessons for four years so he could improve his footwork. Something like that is scoffed at by the unadventurous, but they choose to ignore the fact that he does have the best footwork in the sport, his 396-1 amateur record, and his two Olympic gold medals.

All of that said, I'm not sure that this particular element with his jab is totally revolutionary - it may have been done somewhat similarly before, if not so expertly - but Loma is so far ahead of the rest of boxing with his skill set that it's probably going to take close to a decade for coaches and fighters to catch up.

Lee Wylie also has a great Lomachenko breakdown. Loma is absolutely one of the best going right now.

Very cool. That kind of hand-fighting/parrying is pretty common in MMA, as I imagine the style of glove makes it easier to incorporate. McGregor used it quite effectively vs. Alvarez. Though, I...

Lomachenko's pivot around the opponent is a thing of beauty!
