Any MLS fans here?

Just caught CIN vs CHI on Apple TV… as an ex-Cincinnatian living in Chicago. MLS is getting pretty exciting these days. Any fellow fans?

Lucky, in a way, with so many one point wins, but it’s great seeing them mature as a team. Having the patience and composure an established team have. Excited not only for FCC but MLS in general.

It reminds me of the USL days for the team. They did pretty well in that league. The first few years in MLS were brutal though. The games have been great lately, very tense.

Oh yeah, the first two years were hard. This actually makes me wish we have a relegation system as well. Makes things so much more exciting.

I used to go to a lot of the Chicago Fire games. Went to one during their inaugural season at soldier field. But I haven't been in probably 8+ years.

I'm not exactly a fan, though I've caught one or two of my local club's games. Do any of you guys only support your MLS team, or do you have teams in other leagues as well?

FC Cincinnati in these past three seasons was just phenomenal. Same with MLS as a league. Love seeing this sport taking more of a local foothold (heh.) here in this country.

I do keep track of a handful of other teams besides FC Dallas. I follow teams from the big 5 EU leagues plus some of the “smaller” EU leagues, then also Japan, Australia, and Mexico. It’s not always possible to watch the games live considering TZ differences and life in general, but I stay up to date on team news and watch match highlights when I can.

Japan and Australia, these are some rarer mentioned leagues in the soccer world. What drew you to them? Particularly Australia?!

I would say both the Australian and Japanese leagues are pretty comparable to MLS in terms of skill of the average player, or at least used to be, with the MLS pulling ahead in recent years.

Haven't watched a ton of your team's games. Just checked, still in the play-off zone. Who knows? Love a come-back game.

I've been following Inter Miami since our nightmarish inaugural/COVID season and it's been a pretty rough showing between the delayed Miami-proper stadium, signing too many DPs, the subsequent sanctions, DPs who didn't work out (Pizarro), disgruntled DPs (Higuaín), lack of a pink kit our first year, etc., but now things are finally starting to look up.

While I'm excited for Messi's arrival, a part of me can't help but to think you don't need elite-level talent like this to be competitive in MLS. We've bungled our way through our first 3.5 seasons trying to hit a homerun when what we really needed was a coherent vision and to sign a manager and players that fit that mold. The Rapids won the West in '21, Montreal and Austin finished second in their respective conferences last season, and FCC and St. Louis are once again showing you can win in this league without a talismanic squad of players. It feels like this team can't get out of its own way and even if they start winning it'll solely be attributed to Messi.

Hopefully when Freedom Park opens up in '25/'26 we'll have a more competitive and balanced team with a good mix of homegrowns, MLS vets, good depth, and hungry DPs who aren't just here to enjoy the "lifestyle".

Still, it should be a fun next 3 years for all MLS fans leading up to the '26 WC, so there's definitely a lot to be excited about.
