I’m sorry to see him go, I loved watching him play. As a Bruins fan, the heartbreak continues as it seems like we’re in big trouble for next season. The window to compete closed hard on us. Even with the tough finish though, I can be glad I got to watch him play so many high level games in his last season, instead of filling minutes on a bad team.

Edit: he played on one team so long there are apparently 430 threads in the series on Bergeron on the Bruins sub of HFBoards

I typed in "who's the most respected player in the NHL" and the first result was this article from 2013: Bergeron is #1. That was the year he played in the SCF with a punctured lung, but I feel like his star has only risen since then.

Something recently that impressed me about Bergeron was how he and then-Bruins-coach Bruce Cassidy reacted to Kyle Beach revealing he'd been sexually abused by the Chicago Blackhawks' trainer. Hearing that Bergeron and Cassidy got the Bruins together and had them watch Beach's interview as a team (link) showed the man's character at a time when some NHL players seemed content to just sweep things under the rug.

Everything I've ever heard about him was true class, and that's a rare thing for a top player in a violent sport.

I'm a Senators fan first, but I always had a soft spot for the Bruins because of Bergeron and Chara. Seeing them both retired now feels like the end of an era.
