I'm actually shocked by this. After the "silly season" was pretty calm, I was not expecting any big changes going into the 2024 season. Steiner was a huge media personality for F1 and while Haas hasn't been a top tier team since entering the sport in 2016, they seem like they have been on an upwards trajectory. The change from having two rookie drivers to two seasoned drivers seemed to be the correct direction this past year. The article touches on the point that their one lap pace hasn't resulted in race pace, but that can be said about Ferrari as well in the past couple seasons.

I think there's a fundamental disconnect in Gene Haas's mind about the need to spend more. Steiner must have been pretty irritating with his insistence on the need to modernise Haas facilities, and if Marko is to be believed (ready the lorry-loads of salt!), he wanted some kind of share of team ownership to go his way. Understandable, because if you, the manager, are never given the resources to improve, you're going to look for fulfilment elsewhere - financially, then, because the team Haas will be worth a lot of money if only for its participation rights.

Steiner wasn't my favourite character, if I'm honest. I didn't like his abrasive manner, I found him just loud and brash, not funny. Hopefully the job is not a poisoned chalice, as I fear it may be, as long as Gene Haas controls the purse strings.
