Didn't use the same title for spoiler reasons. But honestly what a great race. Just from yesterday's Quali session there was a good chance it was going to be a great race. The Top 5 also felt like such an accurate depiction of the next generation of this sport. I really wish the most success to all teams, competitive races are the best. While I was supporting Daniel, I am still appreciative of these kinda races. I hope Renault can compete to Redbulls level next year. Again, what a race. Defs going to be on the Netflix at the end of the year lol.
Ps. I hope Gasly gets swapped out next year: he sucked ass the whole season. He was a head of Verstappen at the start of the race then ends up being lapped... Daniil seems the best candidate.
The best race of the season for sure. And a glimpse of the future, like you say. A bit of a bummer with the ending, though.
I was really impressed with Gasly in GP2 and saw a lot of potential in him still last year, but he's been completely lost in Red Bull, poor thing. Frankly, I'd be surprised if he lasts the whole season there. Would be interesting to see Kvyat back in a Red Bull though!
Yeah totally. Honestly, I think a lot of the complaints about F1 are valid, but I usually listen to F1 and not watch it. The commentators usually do a much better job than the race directors so I end up having a great time listening to the midfield battle and gasly. Obviously this race was a stand out. This has probably been one of my favourite races in the Hybrid era. Another one was last year Monaco, how daniel pulled it off still amazes me.
I agree, Gasly was phenomenal just last year. Maybe its the pressure? I don't know, and I don't want to spread rumors. But maybe getting demoted and working his way up would be the best bet for his future in red bull. Right now the grid is absolutely packed with great drivers, except imo Stroll and Kubica.
With Gasly, it's probably pressure, and him moving up too early, and the fact that the car and the team are so fully built around Max. Even if Renault is where it currently is, I think Ricciardo made the right move to leave.
I actually think that Stroll may be a little underrated, although he definitely needs to improve his consistency and qualifying performances. But he's still very young. It'll be interesting to see what he's able to do next year when Racing Point starts the season with a newly developed car which, one could imagine, has been at least partially designed with Stroll in mind. As I understand it, this year's car is pretty much a modification of last year's, as the then Force India didn't have the money to really prepare for the 2019 season.
Kubica has indeed been a big disappointment, not only in terms of racing performances (although Russell may actually be pretty good as well) but also how he has conducted himself publicly with the team. I attended one of the testing days at Hungaroring last year and it was packed with very loud and enthusiastic Polish fans. I feel genuinely sorry for them.
Gasly edged out rookie Giovanazzi to a GP2 championship while both were at Prema (which at that time meant they were effectively in a two horse race for the title). Really not that impressive given that Gasly had two-and-a-half more years under his belt in that car. He did seem better than this last year at Toro Rosso, but it seems he was flattered by a superb James Key design and an underperforming and chronically unlucky teammate in Hartley.
Meta/Offtopic - How would people feel about

or something to that effect for the title? The current one may be spoiler free, but it is a bit editorialized.p.s. The reason I bring this up is not because I feel this title is particularly bad. Allowing people to be excited for things and trying to generate some excitement is fine IMO. However this is still a good conversation to have in ~sports, since avoiding spoilers in titles is a good idea here... and as someone with title editing I am curious what people think the best alternatives are to original titles with spoilers in them.
edit: Got the thumbs up, so changed the title. We can always change it again later if necessary or there are major objections. And just for context, the original title was
Amazing F1 race earlier today!
when I initially made this comment.I'm a hardcore F1 fan and I approve of this edit. Even having a judgment on the quality of a race in the title is to some extent a spoiler.
Hmm, yeah that's actually a good point that I really hadn't considered. I suppose even as dry and "boring" as they may be, totally objective titles are probably for the best if we want to avoid even hints of spoilers.
p.s. I'm glad you're fine with the result, @NecrophiliaChocolate. I didn't want to step on your toes, but just felt this was a perfect opportunity to bring the subject up.
Fine with me as well. I'm just happy to see we have f1 fans here!
