I love this event as it came about as a result of a pub conversation, almost as silly as the cheese rolling in Gloucester

That was wonderful. To think that a run-of-the-mill drunk discussion in a pub would become a fun tradition that has lasted for 40 years and is now being reported worldwide through the internet. It shows that some of our oldest traditions that have become part of the culture may have come from some unlikely places and unlikely situations. It's fun to think of how other ancient traditions have started, maybe a bet between neighbors, a brag from a drunk, or whatever trivial thing that blossomed into a regular thing that just kept going and just never stopped.
