Besides, the biggest point in this article was that Olympic bids are done a decade in advance without factoring inflation. We don't need to cut sports when we're not even doing proper accounting.
Add to it that all of these are using existing venues, not being built new for the games. Only three new permanent venues were built, the Aquatics Centre, Porte de la Chapelle Arena...
I’m probably a bigger sports fan than your typical person, but I’d start cost control by by dropping the sports where professionals already have major global exposure in the non-Olympic events: soccer, golf, basketball, tennis.
Add to it that all of these are using existing venues, not being built new for the games. Only three new permanent venues were built, the Aquatics Centre, Porte de la Chapelle Arena (badminton/gymnastics), and Le Bourget Sport Climbing venue.
