She is not trans and her personal biology is her business but damn it'd be nice for cis folks to see how this gender policing is bad for everyone. And not just bad because they got it wrong this time.

I gotta admit, I don't know how you could allow someone who grew up as a male to box against women. Sounds like an awful idea.

I hope she gets justice. I saw all the vitriol online and it was disgusting. I even cancelled my Boston Globe subscription because they ran a headline literally saying "Transgender boxer prevails"...

It's worth noting that the complaints of the International Boxing Association, which was banned by the IOC from participating in organizing boxing during the Olympics, have ties to Russian organized crime. The IBA was/is headed by a friend of Putin (literally) and its biggest sponsor is Russian state-controlled Gazprom.

This article by the AP goes into a little bit of detail about the links between Russian troll farms and Kremlin-linked affiliates helping to spread divisive and factually incorrect information and AI-generated images that Russia wants to incite exactly the kinds of rhetoric that the Nazi-sympathizers have picked up on. I thought there was a better article that had some info about the thinktanks tracking the origins of this rhetoric, but I can't immediately find it.

PBS has a pretty soft article that would serve as a TL;DR.

Its crazy how many online pundits I've seen state things like "she has XY chromosomes" as FACT when that, in fact, was never stated. The actual facts as we know are:

    • She was raised as a woman since birth.
    • The IBA disqualified her for unspecified reasons (they never said she has XY chromosomes as is widely stated elsewhere)

... thats it. But the anti-woke(?) crowd went wild with it. I certainly have my problems with having (actually) trans people competing in womens sports (e.g. those who have had the advantage of puberty or some kind of advantage specifically that they would not have had if it weren't for transition) but this absolutely isn't it.

It was boosted by a Russian disinformation campaign against the Olympics. So yes, they went wild with it, but it was even more disingenuous than it usually is.
