Colombia was just awarded a free kick outside the box for a very soft foul on Falcao, then this happened.

It was absolutely the right call by the ref. A lot of people will say it's too early for a red (and the commentators touched on that) but to be honest that argument is silly... A cardable offense...

I think there's merit to the "too early for a red" argument, just not in this situation. If it were a debatably violent/dangerous tackle in the 3rd minute, then maybe he gets off with a yellow and stern conversation. That kind of subjectivity isn't really at play here though. The player intentionally denied a goal scoring opportunity with his hand, and by the letter of the rule book, it's a red card offense.

What happens in the second video on Columbia's free kick? The Japanese keeper blocks it? I think that's all but "then this happened," makes me want to assume more.

The ball went across the line (barely). It let Colombia tie it up 1-1.

This is the weirdest world cup in a long time. I love it.

Me too. I'd love to see a few unexpected teams make it out of the group. In terms of heavyweights though, I'm pulling for Belgium in the hopes that we see a first-time winner.

I love that Japan won. This was the first time in a World Cup that an Asian team won against a South American one. This Cup's been great so far.
