It was my birthday! My SIL bought me a six-month subscription to Trade, which is great, and something I may continue, as I really love trying new coffees. I also got my first bag yesterday, and my new grinder.

I wound up buying myself a bunch of gear. I'd been cleaning my Hario Skerton after running a flavored coffee through it and thought "I should get an upgrade." So I got a 1zpresso JX. I almost got a J-Max, but found a review that knocked me out of being a weenie about the grind: I do a bunch of styles from pour over to aeropress to turkish, but I'm not actually that picky about what I drink as long as it tastes alright, and will generally try to tweak other parameters. I mostly wanted an indexed grinder that I could tweak and set and have easily remembered settings on. After talking myself down from the J-Max I also got a Fellow Prismo, which does make a heavy espresso-y brew, but I'm looking forward to doing more convenient/clean immersions without having to invert my Aeropress. The last piece of kit I got was a 10 oz Contigo Auto-Seal mug, which conveniently fits the end of the AeroPress above the threading, as well as the Prismo, and allows me to have a mug with ~6-8 oz of coffee in it that will stay hot. I did buy a Timemore C2 just out of curiosity and see what a similar grinder for under half the price is like.

I was struggling on what to get my twin brother for our birthday (he's like me, buys his own stuff) so I reached out to his wife who mentioned a local barbecue joint he would comment on when they passed it. They had a big ol' platter, so I bought that to feed six people, and it was great. We had dinner and hung out for a few hours with their baby, and it was frankly the best way I could imagine spending a birthday.

I dropped some new pickups in my Telecaster. I'd wanted a pair of Guitar Fetish Li'l Punchers. I think my bridge pickup is a bit too hot, but it sounds great when I'm really cranking it or even just have a bit of fuzz, so I'm absolutely happy with the result. Because the Squier Affinity Tele has such tiny holes drilled in it, I had to file for an hour to be able to pull the KwikPlug 1/8-inch plugs through the holes to connect the new pickups after replacing the wire harness to add a push-pull pot to switch between humbucker and single coil.

Started my second round of chemo. I'm having a combo called CAPOX which is an infusion of oxaliplating and then tablets of capecitabine. First round was good. Second round infusion was pretty rough - I was very sick for a few hours. Nurses worked hard to get it under control, and I got escalated up to a very good anti sickness medication. I'm only having four rounds, and it's preventative not curative. I'm going to continue with the next two rounds, with a bit of trepidation.

I learned to cook chow mein noodles because my kid loves them, and I got a recipe that he thinks is better than the takeaway we had so that's good.
