Snacking at the Desk
Like many of you I sit in front of a computer quite a few hours a day, and of course I like to snack.
How do you guys go about keeping your hands and/or keyboards and mice (or other accessories) clean? Use a fork for everything? Keep a napkin/wipe handy? Take snack breaks?
I often eat in front of computer, so there's some things I do to keep it clean (and it is clean!)
First, I minimize touching the keyboard and mouse by watching a movie or a youtube video that is long enough for me to eat.
Second, always be careful with your food, use a napkin, don't put smears anywhere.
Third, always keep one hand or at least a big part of it clean so you can stop the video or whatnot.
As for snacks, I don't do them, but the same rules still apply.
You have a very straight to the point username :P
If you think this is straight to the point, you haven't seen my other accounts.
BTW, is it OK to go off topic here? I think I'm going to create a post about usernames right now.
Sure I guess, I'm all ears
Edit: nvm, I see it
I can't watch YouTube a whole day, can I?
Don't eat snacks all day, then!
Eat three meals a day like a normal person?! No way!
Oh god my desk is disgusting. I clean my keyboard when the keys start to get sticky. I eat messy food while using my desktop all the time. My one solace is that the glass surface of my desk makes it easy to clean (unless it gets dirty under the glass in which case, uh, problems occur.)
I get crumbs and stuff on my desk, but I can't handle a sticky keyboard or mouse.
Typically when I eat around my computer I try and keep the food as far away from it as I can and I try and use utensils where possible.
When eating meals I can see how it works to just step away, but I'm always snacking around my computer so until I find a better idea I just eat everything with a fork, even chips etc.
I take it you mean British chips? I'm having a hard time imagining how you could do this with American chips without them shattering into tiny crumbs.
Nope, it's a work of art. I use the fork prongs to catch the chips, it's a bit easier if you pour the chips on a plate, otherwise it's just practice.
I try to use a try table for food so I keep it off my actual desk. Always have a paper towel too so I don't get anything on my keyboard or mouse.
My desk is not as much of a problem, I just wipe it down. Paper towel works, but I found that if it's slightly damp it's even better.
Damping the towel is some next level shit. I wouldn't throw that onto someone until they get some experience under their belt.
I sense a bit of sarcasm. I just want to clarify that I'm referring to dampening the towel used for your fingers in between touching the food and the keyboard, it can make all the difference.
No you're completely right. I was just making a joke.
