What did you do this week (and weekend)?

As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!

So after watching the Beat Saber Extra Sensory II event i was inspired to make level of my own.

I chose a song i had heard a while ago that i had imagined a cool fight scene with, learned ChroMapper and mapped out a draft within three days.

Then i went ahead and tried to understand how old (pre Vivify) maps made environments and effects, which then i found Swifter1243's ReMapper. I also found he's put up the source for his You map!

I spent a long while looking through the map and understanding how things were done, how the ReMapper code functions and how the Unity project is structured to work with Vivify.

I then started working on getting a simple blockout of the scenes i want into the map, i followed the ReMapper instructions, fixed all dependency issues i ran into, did a simple load prefab call in the beginning of the level and... nothing.

I spent the last two days trying everything i can to get it to work and finally today i look at Vivify's documentation and saw a note saying i need to add the mod as a requirement in the map info file.

So now i've lost a bit of the motivation that i had (I actually lost a lot of motivation when i saw that apparently Vivify doesn't support Unity animations and i have to do the animations i want in code instead of visually with a timeline) so i'm sitting here contemplating the map instead of working on it.

Hopefully i can atleast get the lighting to how i want it, cause even looked a bit finicky ingame, this whole thing is hard, and i'm gonna go at it as long as i can.

My wife is learning to ride a bike so I've played the part of cheerleader and bike-stability researcher: Andy Ruina explains how bicycles balance themselves

That's nice! I can imagine the joy of watching her learn, i've tried to have my mom learn to bike and she got it a tiny bit, but she's too afraid to continue. And watching Tom Scott learn is fun...

And watching Tom Scott learn is fun video, lots of joy.

I actually wasn't taught how to ride a bike until I was an adult either. What worked for me was finding a road with a low grade slope in a neighborhood without much traffic and just solely focusing on keeping balance while leveraging gravity for the movement of the bike - then once I got that down, added in stuff like pedaling, pushing off myself, etc. Since the "balance" is the hardest part, it helped keep the scope limited to only that - the other things might not seem like much, but it all adds together as moving parts.

How has she been doing at it?

She was really struggling with balance at first but after a couple hours of practice she's got the hang of it I agree that sounds like a great way to learn! We did similar things. She kept asking...

I agree that sounds like a great way to learn! We did similar things. She kept asking for training wheels but I only had elbow pads (which sufficed her fear) and thankfully she never fell off

It was finally warm enough outside to do some minor work on my Subaru. I replaced spark plugs and wires and it's running a bit better now! I also just got new Falken tires today for it. It's almost warm enough to get the Miata out, but I need a good rain fall to clear the salt off the roads. I would work on my cars in the winter, too, if I had a better garage situation, which brings me to my next point...

Then this weekend, I'm going to three open houses for some homes I like. I started the home buying process in the last month and this will be my first weekend of tours! Two of the homes I'm seeing are at the high end of my price range, but both perfectly fit my needs. They're both up to date, in good walkable and bikeable neighborhoods, cute as hell, and have pretty good garage situations. The last one is a little cheaper due to location (further out) and based on the listing, it's almost perfect for me. It isn't as up to date as the other two, but it has everything I need an the garage is AMAZING! It would easily fit 4 or more cars and has ample space for a lift and plenty of tool boxes. The only thing holding me back is that we were just ordered to return to office tue-thur each week and that property would be somewhere between 30 minutes (no traffic) or an hour commute each way. If this were 3 months ago before we had this mandate, I'd be scrambling to put an offer in, this house checks all the boxes (again based on listing info, I still need to see it tomorrow). So I'm currently debating if saving $300 a month on my monthly payments over the other two is worth spending 2-4 hours more per week in a car than I would if I were commuting from the other two. And even besides the commute, it's a little further out from the city center than I intended, but still near enough, I suppose.

Of course the other option is I don't move on any of the three and other listings will pop up over the next couple months as the housing market gets busy here. I think my current plan might be to see if that cheaper and further one just stays on the market a bit so that I can offer below asking. It might push me to get it if I'm saving $400-$500 a month on the payment.
