What did you do this week?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
I got into a graduate school I’m happy with, but rejected from a handful of ‘reach’ schools. Expected, but still a bit of a bummer. I’ve gotten into 3 schools so far and there’s a clear choice right now, but I’m waiting both to hear back from others as well as visiting weekends to decide.
I worked on patching dwm --- or rather, re-patching dwm --- to my liking. I've also been slowly working through K&R. I'm slowly preparing to move my laptop to FreeBSD. I also stayed up late most nights and have been tired and out of sorts all week.
I made a mod thingie! It's a minor thingie, but it's a thingie I'm proud of, because it's a product made into the world. If you're a fan of Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead, you can play it already, or wait a month for the Stage III final release. (Modding ain't easy when you must start from scratch, it turns out.)
Meanwhile, I'm finding my vision of the mod thwarted by the fact the game's not developed enough to handle it. It lacks some mid-tier features that I'd really like to see addressed – and thankfully, the dev team is looking to address them. (Things like being able to create a power grid and connect items to it without working around the existing vehicle-based grid mechanics.)
Apparently there was a possibility of using LUA-based coding to enhance mods, but it doesn't appear to be a thing anymore? I'd love to add the code the mod needs, and making a mod-related LUA file would be easier than modifying the engine with C++ (which would be beyond the scope of my current capacities).
So I'm going to advocate for the changes to be brought into the engine by the devs or by the community.
Go to the dentist again to put in some filling that was missing in my teeth that are gonna be needed to put full braces on my teeth soon, which is great.
I'm also getting used to the 3 new subjects at school, the first one being technology, which has been carried out as well as you'd expect, second being actually something called 'electives' ('eletivas') where we will pick our subject from (I think) a few options being given (music, entrepreneurship and others). My picks would be either economics or civics, although I'm pretty sure those things are more complicated than I could ever understand.
I also saw a mildly cheesy 'tree of dreams/desires' and one of the leaves had 'friends' badly written on them, which may as well have been written by me. This however is part of the third new subject, "Project of life" specifically for asking us our ambitions for the future so I was asked to put my personal objectives in a piece of paper and alas, socialization and programming were put at the top accordingly. That's definitely a way to get you thinking about your personal life.
