What did you do this week?

As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!

For a long time I've been bothered by all the different content platforms not because they exist and I want everything under one roof but more because I couldn't ever keep a centralized wishlist/queue for media. My interests were either all siloed on different platforms or lost to time because I didn't bother flagging things at all, knowing that they were stuck on that individual platform.

Well, I found out this week that the notes app I use has a spreadsheet extension that works on both computer and mobile. So, I made a spreadsheet where I can keep platform-agnostic wishlists for my books, movies, games, etc. I also made the first page of the spreadsheet a landing page that randomly picks 3 items from each category for me, so that when I want to, say, sit down and watch a movie and I don't know what I want, I can limit my selections to the 3 dredged up for me from my own wishlist, rather than scrolling through the full lists themselves (or the "endless" lists on content platforms). This is huge for me, as I tend to get analysis paralysis with too many choices, and when I'm left to my own devices I'll tend to pick lower-effort stuff and not get to the content that's richer but a bit more demanding. Giving me a directed random pick will force me to get around to stuff that I've long put off for being too intimidating or too much (e.g. those games in my Steam library with playtimes of 40+ hours).

I also plugged all my book and movie data into LibraryThing and MovieLens respectively so that I can get platform-agnostic and relatively privacy-friendly personalized recommendations. I'd love similar sites for games and TV shows, but I don't know if they exist (let me know if they do!). Also, expect a few recommendation-begging posts from me in the coming weeks, as I'll be working to populate my lists now that the structure for them is set up.

My SO and I finished watching the first season of Kingdom on Netflix. We're giving it a moment to breath before we watch season two. It was a really good show, though the last few minutes of the last episode of season 1 just like, SPIKED my anxiety as I was watching it. I'm a very empathetic person (like if a moment in a movie or show is too embarrassing I have to look away or pause it) so the last part made me so incredibly nervous!! I just wanted them to get it over with omg!!

Besides work, I've been working on a digital painting of a character for my friend. I had tried to color it earlier in the month but gave it a rest and am now repainting it on top of having made changes to the sketch itself! It looks way better now and I feel much more comfortable coloring aha. I have no plans for a background, though I may add some kind of wisteria or hanging tree/light nature stuff, not 100% sure.

I also managed to start learning python on jetbrain. I've been keeping at it and doing a few modules a day so far. I'm very dumb and coding is hard for me but jetbrain is honestly the right pace for me. It really fucking hammers in its point in a way that's very useful to me and how I learn. Ultimately I'd like to be able to code in python and get to Javascript and html/css in order to make websites for myself. I have dreaaaaaams and they require knowing how to cooooode.

Im hoping to get more done this weekend and even next week. I only have a couple weeks left of work which sucks lol. It's both nerve wracking but relieving at the same time? I started working at 18 and this'll be one of the very few moments between then and now that I'll be unemployed. So we'll see how that goes.
