What did you do this weekend?

As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their weekend. Did you make any plans? Take a trip? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!

Went on a nice long walk on Saturday. After that a lot of snow came and is still supposed to come. My sleep schedule is all messed up now, going to sleep at like 2:30 am every day. Also, my friends are busy with stuff so every evening instead of playing video games with them I just spend time scrolling through Reddit, Twitter, watching Youtube, just wasting time. Maybe sometimes getting some work done if I feel like it, but it always feels weird to work on stuff late at night, even though I can be pretty productive even at this time. But god, I feel so so lonely without at least this socialization that I kind of started to take for granted.

Had a LAN/car stuff weekend with the guys. Slapped some coilovers onto my buddy's 370Z and while doing so diagnosed (and fixed) his instability problem and overly loud exhaust. 1 As well as finished buttoning up the 7AGE engine then test fitting it in the Tercel to check for various clearance around it. 2

Picked up this car via Copart insurance auction for a song ($3k) and he's talked about how the back end will step out sideways over uneven road and the exhaust having an annoying rattle at certain RPM ranges, but he hadn't ever gone under it to check. While putting the suspension on I find that the swaybar bushings are torn (not a huge issue), the front suspension is missing one of the two bolts that holds the shock on, the rear suspension eccentric bolts that control alignment and camber are loose as well as installed incredibly (and obviously) incorrectly, and half of the bolts that hold the rear half of the exhaust on are also missing making the mufflers practically useless. Fixed all that and it sounds better (not great, because it's still a terrible sounding engine) and is planted while driving.

First needed to grease up, add FIPG, and torque to spec the rear main seal. Added a pilot bearing to the shopping list as this engine didn't have one from the factory since it was going into a FWD car, but needs one to support the input shaft on the transmission in AWD applications. Drilled and countersunk the bolts needed to hold the adapter to the oil pan and the one bolt that's on the wall of the pan. Installed studs along the bottom of the block, along with the oil pickup, for the oil pan and mounted it along with the adapter with black, oil resistant, FIPG material.

Next up bolted on the old motor mounts, debating if I'll make custom mounts to lower the engine further, and set it in the bay to check how far I'll need to drop the crossmember to make it fit. If it's even possible to space it down that far without compromising everything else. I'm dedicated to not modifying the hood to fit, so if I simply can't drop it enough I'll just fabricate an intake manifold that doesn't stick up so goddamn far. The white blurry line in the foreground is the to of the fender and so imagine it as the line where the hood will also sit. Not a perfect shot and I'll be getting out there this week to put a straight edge across the bay to really measure how high it sits.
