The article sort of reminded me of this video about ThisPersonDoesNotExist, in which AtomicShrimp explores the horrors that exist as side characters in AI face shots.
My money is on Loab being "generic." In the absolute best case scenario I can see a generic face, such as the result of a negative query(?) being dark haired, dark eyed, lighter but tan-skinned, and not masculine , at least by western standards. In this case there is also likely an issue with the training data skewing towards it's country of origin.
I found it funny the artist used the name "supercomposite," because I'd bet money the face isba composite of all identified faces in the training set.
As a side note I don't handle creepy faces particularly well and found the article supremely unsettling after a couple drinks. The face themselves aren't too bad, just a bit uncanny.
